Default I gotta ask about this. Waterproofing

I had a friend call me the other night and he was at another friends house who was in the process of melt wax to waterproof his electronics with. He swears he saw it on here and it is stated to be the top method and the best method to use but I just can't see it working and really see it most likely messing something up. I have been through the waterproofing section in the past and have been on here for years and have never seen this. Can somebody please tell how this would work or tell me how stupid he is so I can prove him wrong? Thanks

I don't know that I've seen it here, but I've done it before many, many, many years ago on a cheap rc. The theory is sound, and it more or less works. The wax has a tendency to chip off around anything flexible though.

So what happens when the item gets hot? Every time you use it, it'll smell like summer breeze or pumpkin spice....cool! But on a serious note, Corrosion X or conformal coating FTW!

That is what I use and that is what we tried telling this guy but he swears we are wrong and that he read it on here as the #1 way to waterproof. I know he is wrong and I guess he will have to figure out the hard way.
