which charger would you choose??
 

wife has have me the ok to get me and my son each rigs with tax money this year. with both of is having rigs I want to get a charger that will do more than 2 battery's at a time
been looking at the Hitec chargers
mainly the X4 eighty and the X4 plus
but I don't know which to go with
the biggest difference is the x4 plus needs no power supply
both have the ability to run off of DC power if needed
but there is about a $50 difference in the two
so I'm wondering which to go with. any of you all have any opinions
I know if I go with the X4 eighty ill need a power supply so on that note which power supply would you get for it

I will chime in here, I am making a purchase with in the next two months. I originally like you wanted to go with AC/DC dual charger.......now with that being said, I researched a lot and also took the advice on here. I am going to get the revoelectrix cellpro powerlab 6, It is more $ then I originally wanted to spend, but if you take into account the dangers of lipo and the fact that I will probably never outgrow this charger, and it is one of the, if not the safest charger out there. It needs a power supply which actually is a benefit, I discovered after the advice on here......simple fact an AC/DC just doesn't have the power, and you are limited to 5 to 8 amps on most of the chargers on the market that have built in power supplies. Here is a link to a thread I started about a month ago... a lot of good info in it. I know you were interested in the Hitec line, but I figured I would throw this out there. In the combo set I am going to get has a paraboard that allows you to charge up to 6 batteries at the same time.

I own the Hitec X4 and love it. It works great and has never given me any issues. As Wade said there is a limit to how many amps you can charge at, but for me even a battery rated at a 5C charge rate, doesn't get charged at more than a 2C rate. So anything up to a 4000mah battery you could still charge at doule the rate. Everyone is different but I like to keep my charge rates low even on the high rated packs.

The nice thing about the setup I am going with, is that with the power on hand I technically could charge four 2200 mah in around 8 minutes lolz

I have looked at that setup but it's just more money than I want to spend on a setup
I'm sure it's a great setup but it's just out of my price range

I bet you'll have to replace batteries more often with that setup as well.

I understand, I was dead set on getting an onyx charger for 119.00. Now I have held off for a few months to save up :mrgreen: I figured I would throw that out there just in case. But yeah I hear you on trying to stay within a budget, sucks. My stuff is so old I need to treat myself to a gift though. BTW love the avatar under your name

I wouldn't charge at a high rate though just for that reason alone. But if you take say a 4000mah at 1c = 4amps takes about an hour. If you charge at 2c which is becoming more the norm right now that's 8 amps takes say 30 minutes, now take the set up I am referring to that's 40 amps.....so basically 5 batteries in 30 minutes using a paraboard and it is done safely............Now for me I hate waiting lol. My background involved an old piranha charger which charged one battery and took forever...... So for me its worth it just cuz like I said I hate waiting for batteries to charge. Also a lot of the batteries are now capable of 5c charge rates.

Some up to 15c! These can be safely charged at 3c no problem, no ill effects.

me personally for my crawler i bought a venom pro but for my hell batteries i use i chargers but before that i loved my thunder power 610

Powerlab 6/8 with a parallel charging board is just about the best thing out there. You can charge several packs at the same time and not get anywhere near the capacity of the charger. I'm probably going to go with a Hyperion 730i which can be had for $99. With a parallel charging board, it should meet all my needs and then some. The only time the X2 / X4 chargers come in really handy is if you are going to be charging a lot of different sized packs at the same time. If most of your packs are the same capacity and cell count, a high amp charger and parallel board just makes sense. I know you said the powerlab was out of your budget, so what budget are you working with?
