Default CC 10 amp BEC problems

Okay so i have a CC 10amp bec that's a couple years old that has spent most of its time in the tool box because I was having output voltage issues of it randomly fluctuating from the set point at 7.4 volts, it would jump around from 5 volts to 11 volts on a 3s lipo, in fact it even burnt up a Hitec HS-7954SH from I am assuming over loading it with full 3s 11.1 volts!... I set it at 7.4 using castle link.... I purchased another CC bec from the local hobby shop earlier this week for another project and today out of curiosity I temporarily hooked the old one to a 3s and checked the voltage at the other end and it's now holding a constant 7.4 volts... Wtf? Anyone ever experienced any issues with this before?
