Pure water does not conduct electricity, but we never crawl in pure water aren't we? So the answer is no.

Nicad and nickel metal batteries are ok with water but lipos are a no go with water. I over shrink wrap my lipos and then use shoe Goo or amazing goop to seal the ends. My lipos have been deep under water many times and not had any problems.

I used to spend great deal of time plasti-dipping my LiPo batteries so they would be waterproof... then I realized that the individual cells are chemically sealed anyway so the only damage that water can do inside a lipo is the same it would do if it got into the battery connector.
I've been driving my Honcho roof-deep in water with non-waterproofed batteries ever since.

Then again.... I buy cheap hobbyking batteries, so if something ever does goes wrong, I just go buy another.
(2 years... nothing gone wrong yet)

Good to know. I was a tad concerned but not overly considering al the packs say to keep them away from water.

Some LiPo battery can be waterproof, but it will be expensive than the normal one, or else, you can use a plastic box contain the battery and sealed it after you connect it to the motor and ESC.
