So what is the difference and are they applicable to brushed motors? Sorry for the newb question, but my search didn't yield much.

Drag brake activates when you leave off the throttle , and it will hold your truck in place.

A regular brake acts by hitting reverse and will slow down the vehicle.

It's about as simple as that really. Drag brake is programmed or initialized through the esc and the regular brake is only activating my tapping reverse.

Thanks for the explanation! Now it all makes sense. But do these braking modes work with brushed motors?

Brushed motors have an inherent drag brake how much depends on two or four magnet and how strong the magnets are, but yes both do work with brushed motors.
