| Radio help 4pls vs dx4r
Ok guys I'm looking at getting a new radio. I'm weighing my options between futaba and spektrum 4 channels. I'm looking for the good and bad sides of each one. Like ease of programming, battery availability etc etc.

I have a 4pl and Dx3c. The Futaba 'feels' more substantial. The throttle trigger is smoother feeling with adjustable position and tension. There is a long thread here with tons of info on its operation and programming. The Spektrum 'feels' empty and the throttle tension is near non existent and not adjustable. The cushioned pistol grip is nice and feels secure. Programming is fairly straight forward and I like the roller button and used one for years on my JR XP9303 aircraft transmitter. Not familiar with the Dx4R but if the prices are similar, I'd get the Futaba. |

I'd suggest you went to a shop and held them both of possible. I like my 4s but it doesn't feel like some high dollar radio if that's what your after. Programming is simple. I have been runnin spek for years now with never an issue, so that's why I stayed that route. I'd say overall the radios are likely very similar including programming. I believe the 4r also has trigger adjustment like Futaba. Overall you probably couldn't go wrong with either choice. |

I run the 4pls, I have no experience with the dx4r. I like all the dials/switchs/buttons for lights, winches, 4WS. Programing is easy, the 6 channel receivers are cheap $35. I plug a 1900mah LiFe pack in mine and it last for months. The 4pls in nice and light weight, comfortable, great resolution. looks like on Ebay you can get the 4pls for $100 less than the dx4r. |

I have a 4pl and love it its easy to program and works great. A friend of mine had a spectrum and kept having issues with interference from peoples radios and his would interfere with theirs at times its kinda crazy since they aren't supposed to but he wouldn't be touching anything then all the sudden it would start stuttering and trying to go. We got everybody there to turn off their radios 1 at a time and it was another spectrum at that time then another it was a flysky then another a axial controller. Needless to say he got rid of it and now has a Futaba.

I just ordered a 4PLS and am waiting on it to get here. One are to not skimp on is the radio system...it is your direct link to your truck and could be the difference of making a line or glitching into a river! +1 for the Futaba! |

Thanks guys I've been reading the operation manuals for both I like the idea of being to assign different functions to different switches on the 4pl.

Futaba really is the only manufacturer out there that has developed crawler specific functions.

I was always a spektrum guy ( still own a dx3r with nothing bad to say about it) but for crawling needs futaba is the way to go IMO. I was a spektrum guy 100% till I got my first 4pl, now I own a 4pk also. I LOVE them. The 4pl/4pls are easy to program and I think are a "nicer" radio... I think the spektrum "looks" cooler but my spektrum just doesn't have that quality feel as the futaba does. But again, this is coming from a guy who likes and uses both brands. For crawling needs I would vote futaba.... |

My vote is still futaba , better quality , better resale etc etc so on and so on. I still like my dx3r though, I use it on my rock bouncer, so I'm not knockin spektrum , I just think futaba is a better quality, better "bang for your buck" If I was gonna spend the $ ( which both are very close in price ) I would go with the 4pls.

Don't leave out the airtronics MT-4... Way simple to setup, all the options of a futaba, and not all the button pushing.. It has a built in moa mixing option for dual esc's, take's lipo, the antenna is more of a handle (never have to worry about that breaking off), and feels great in the hand! Just my .02 worth..
