Cheap esc off ebay.

Was thinking about getting a cheap crawler brushed esc off ebay. there are plenty of options that look okay but none say they come with drag brake but say they are for crawling or have a crawling mode. there are some that are only about $10. what do you guys think? should i ust save my money for an AE-2.

I would get the AE-2. You can find new ones that are take offs from RTRs for around $45.

But if you have the ten bucks to burn, then you could give one of the cheap ones a try. I wouldn't have real high expectations about how well it works or how long it lasts.

true. just got word back from the seller of this esc 1 10 RC 45A x Car Brushed Crawler ESC 2S LiPo Ready TRAXAS HPI Axial SCX10 | eBay that the climbing mode is dragbrake mode. ive looked at this esc a few times for other applications but always just had a spare brushed esc lying around. this time i dont so i might pick it up and give it a go. it looks a bit higher quality than the others but is about $25 instead of $10 or $15

The HobbyKing Xcar 45A Brushed ESC is cheap and comes with LIPO cutoff and a drag brake.

If you are going for a cheap alternative, I would try this one from Hobbywing. I'll rather go for a more familliar brand such as hobbywing, they are known to make good ESCs

My thoughts on a cheap ESC is this.

If you have a cheap ESC, put it in a cheap vehicle. I wouldn't try to persuade someone from using a cheap esc, but the chances of it failing, or worse catching your vehicle on fire is far greater.

$10 ESC in a $300 kit = possible -$310. Just my thoughts.

my brother ran this esc. only in a purple case. it ran ok for a while and poof it let out the smoke mysteriously one day.
save your money for a cc sidewinder 3 or better yet a holmes hobbies brxl. and get waterproof edition

Axial JK crawler: $350 +/-
Cheap ebay ESC: 20 +/-
Portable fire extinguisher: $30 +/-
Having a good time with your kids and then your Axial catches fire from a cheap ESC. Thank goodness you have the portable fire extinguisher: PRICELESS

Well i have had more trubble with Castle ESCs than any of my hobbywing, though I have not tryed the quickrun I linked to, who is there cheapest line, but I have it on order and will try it when it arrives.
