Default Is it bad to stuff all your electronics into one box?

I was just curious because the way I want to set my scx10 up, I would have batteries on the slider bars and a box up front which I can fit my Rx, esc, bec, and winch controller all inside of. It's a tight fit but would keep most water out under normal situations. I was just wondering if it may have adverse affects or would it be fine to do it like that?

The main thing to be aware of is the ESC, if you are not running a high powered (i.e. high heat) configuration you should be ok IMHO.

Like mentioned, heat could be somewhat of an issue, depends on what your running for power, and the only other possible issue would be radio interference.

Sometimes receiver antennas don't like to be around servo wires, or sensored brushless cables. Since your going waterproof the brushless isn't probably a big deal, but I would say if you jam it all in there, just give it a trial run quick around your yard or something before you seal it all up, just to be sure you don't have any interference or glitching issues.

I'd say EMC (electromagnetic coupling) can be another issue besides heat.
At least BEC and ESC use components that operate at radio frequencies, and this might cause problems with the Rx.

One solution is to wrap BEC and Rx in tin foil and try to keep the wires separated.

Heat...

I stuffed an fxr, bec & rx in a radio shack box (tight fitting jeans forsure) on 3s. Running the lid on during cool weather works good unless your getting it for long periods of time. Summer time....forget about it, would thermal quick like. I don't bother to the run the lid on it anymore and it works just fine (just not as WP as I had intended)

All this makes me think of is Ron Howard in a tin foil hat! Lmao

I've never had emc issues except once when stacking a savox servo on top of a 400 can open end puller motor. The rest being circuits have had zero emc issues. I've seen many smashes stacked up with good results

Only issues I've seen or had is heat depending on run time and gearing. I would run for 15 hard and check temp and repeat every 15 and go off of that. Should give ya a good clue on your set up

Thanks for the tips. I ran my fxr with 35t motor on 3s last summer and never had any heat issues, but I have more than one top so I can drill one to vent it for warmer days I guess. Heck I have an extra fan or two from crap escs I could probably put one on top.

I have my ESC and RX in the same box on my SCX10's without issues.

It shouldn't cause a problem.

My decased FXR, receiver and BEC are all tightly packed into a space smaller than the Axial radio box. There are zero issues with interference or heat. My next build will have all of the electronics in a smaller package; everything will be basically smashed together.

I have a RX8, RX and BEC in one box. It does fine with the 4300 Pro4 on 3s. the box does get hot but doesn't thermal. The MMP I had before would thermal with the same set-up.

All depends on the heat ... which can depend on your motor & gearing, etc.

Ach! Damn the nay-sayers, and give 'er a go!
(shrug) Maybe it works, who's to say?

Not sure how bad of an idea it is, only had JUNKFOOT! out on one trail ride.
And that was a crisp, fall day. Don't know how it'll do in the heat of summer.

Check out this build by Mike Pham. Incredible build and he puts all his electronic items in traxxas waterproof boxes.

I do it routinely when building rigs, a fxr, receiver. bec and used to be winch controller in the same radio shack box, been doing it for years without issues so far, I would watch your gearing ect to keep it from overheating
