Default Crawler Wire Gauge

I've got a new Bully 2 Crawler with HH Crawlmaster Pro 16T motors, smashed HH BR Minis ESCs, a Castle Creations 10A BEC and am using Gens Ace 450Mah 3C batteries. I'm curious about the various wire sizes I find on these different parts.

The wires from the battery are 20 AWG. The wires from the ECS to the battery are 14 AWG and the wires HH added to the motors for me are also 14 AWG. The wires from the ESC to the motor wires are 16 AWG. THE BEC is using 20 AWG to the battery.

Three different gauges of wire for 4 devices all using the same current. Obviously some of this is there for a reason but how much of it is overkill?

Also, am I able to use Deans Micros with this setup?

Cheers eh,

Todd

I leave what comes on the batteries and just change to the mini deans plugs. The rest gets 18g.

I running the HH MINI BR's too. I was running 18g and found that they got very hot. I switched to 16g everywhere(except the Battery) and they run much cooler.

They come with 16 gauge I think so that seems appropriate. Thank you sir.

20awg on my castle set up (I inherited the setup). The esc's can lose heat more quickly with bigger wire though. If I'd done it my self, I'd have used 16.

Are you gonna rewire your inheritance?

No. Not unless I start burning up esc's. It came smashed and wired pretty nicely. I'm happy with the performance after a couple dozen battery packs so far. I have felt it, and the esc's seem to get a little warm to the touch, maybe 130*f, but not much more.

One thing I do wonder though, if I filled the smash job with some dielectric grease, or that conformal coating or what ever it is for waterproofing, will that help dissapate heat and protect the electronics from overheating as well?

Would think that kind of covering/sealing would hold in any generated heat. Like zipping up the sleeping bag.

I'm thinking the thermal transfer between the liquid would be much higher than that of free air, or the air in the smashed wrap. That would mean much better heat dissipation than otherwise.

that's just my thinking though. i have no facts, so that's why I ask.
