Buy the 888d, I use one for my travel kit. You get what you pay for in soldering stations. It's not worth going cheap or trying to be different. Hakko stuff is easy to find, so never in a bind for a replacement part.

I tried every which way to go cheap. I had a craptastic Weller from Lowes, the China cheapo from HobbyKing and they both are shite. I spent some dough on the Hakko 888d and I never looked back. Buy right the first time man. It'll make your soldering jobs waaaaaaay easier and wiull save you money in the longterm.

I treated myself to a Hakko 888d and have never regretted it. It is a night and day difference than the cheap crap I was trying to use before. I just wish I had done it a lot sooner!! I thought about getting the Hobby Queen one but I was able to get the 888d in 2 days from Amazon with free shipping. I also did not have to worry about what tips I was going to use as the Hakko uses Hakko tips that are easy to get and very reasonably priced.

Wow that thing is super nice. I used to have alot of trouble with soldering till I bought a good iron. Now its fast, easy and I really enjoy it. May have to get one of these.
