| Savox 1230SG or Hitec HS-7954SH? Help Me Choose
I could use a push off the fence. I keep seeing Hitecs in comp rigs and I've driven a couple of rigs with Hitec 79XX and they seem to be damn fine servos. But the Savox makes more torque with less voltage....and I got a tiny battery to crawl with so.... Is there any reason to choose Hitec or Savox when looking at these two specific servos? They both cost the same on eBay. Hitec produces 403 oz/in at 7.4VDC and Savox produces 500 oz/in at 6VDC. They both have steel gears, dual bearings, coreless motors. The Hitec is faster. Is one going to hold up better than the other? Durability ranks higher to me than output. The whole idea behind getting one of these monsters is to avoid buying servos every few weeks Thanks in advance. -RW |

I've been using Savox for for over a year now and had nothing but a great experience. I have two 1230's, a SW1210SG and a SW0231MG. The 1230's will pick the back wheels up and throw them around when the fronts are bound up. Great servo's but I'm sure you'll get lots of Hitec fans also.

We may not know this information but it is well known that savox servos brown out the Rx much more often than hitec servos when used without a bec. They are even known to brown out the Rx in racing conditions where bind is never an issue. The hitec will likely be easier on your battery.

Hitec is the bar by which all others are judged.

I own both the hitec 7954 and the Savox 1230. Ive used both also. You cant go wrong either way. I prefer the savox only because my local hobby store carries them.

I was thinking about a savox 0251, seemed 222in lbs would be sufficient, however once again my need to go over board again took over and the 1230 took the win. I'm used to running castle becs in my sct's so this was a non issue, always have a couple of them in the parts bag.

If you ever need a warrenty, and you will especially if you go with a savox, buy a hitec. They are the company that will stand behind their product. Put in a 7954. |

Ok.. Right off the bat.. I'm a Hitec fan! Not cause they are Awesome! Not cause they are a one time purchase.. Not cause they Won't brown out ur rig or over draw power.. Because.. Hitec warranty is second to none! 3yr warranty for replacement.. Lifetime return on fried boards or motors! Just for fun.. Call or email savox and ask them about there warranty. If that doesn't make up ur mind to go with Hitec, your just choosing to throw your money in the trash.. Cause that's where your savox servo is going to end up if anything every goes wrong with it.. Even if it fries the day after you buy it.. Yep, there was a thread here about a month ago about it.. Guy posted the returned emails from savox right on the thread.. It's not pretty.. Now just for a shot at a 3rd idea.. If you throw 10$ more, you could go with a HH Trailmaster bls servo.. Just shy (396oz) of the 7954(403oz) @6v an 0.17 Just shy (482oz) of the 1230(500oz) @7.4v an 0.14 But.. Way over(572oz) the 1230 an just shy of a 7980 @8.4v an 0.13.... I worked my way up thru servo's, JR, Savox, Hitec, etc.. Before HH servo came out, I had 7950's or 7980's in all my rigs (1.9, 2.2s, an 2.2p comp rigs, TF2, scx, an wraith scale rigs).. Until I pulled a 7980 for a HH servo.. I ran a Major national qualifier comp with it and didn't think once about not having enough torque! I was to busy smiling about the speed over the 7980! That and it costs half as much! always a plus! |

I couldn't stop cracking 1230 front cases. The hitecs also have a plastic front. Picked up a savox 1283 with a metal front, no more problems. The 1230 and 1283 both have plenty of torque for me. |

| Re: Savox 1230SG or Hitec HS-7954SH? Help Me Choose I've had a savox 1230sg in my pro comp rig with no issues for almost 3 years now. I run it with a castle bec. I was not easy at all on it by any means. It just failed on me recently at a local club comp. I haven't tried to deal with customer service yet, but I hope it's not as bad as what I'm hearing. You can't go wrong with either servo. So good luck on your quest. |
