Default rc4wd wireless winch controller

Hi guys I just got the new warn wireless controller and im trying to bind it but there are no lights to be seen indicating anything is working. The controller box is getting warm to the touch just being plugged into a battery. I think this is deffective.

I just finished soldering mine up to my 3s LiPo (ESC leads)
RC4WD said in email, that the controller will survive 3s direct connection.
but I have yet to test mine. (later today or tomorrow)
^ a 2s connection would be even less for concern.

One of the common failure issues is that the batteries
installed in the FOB may be bad...
so... (at least in recent kits) they include a spare set of batteries.

Use either a voltmeter to check those batteries...
or use a LED and touch it's proper leads on the + and -
of both batteries stacked and removed from the FOB.
Either method should determine if the batteries are producing voltage.

You did pull out the clear insulating plastic insert tab on the FOB ?
^ silly for me to ask... but I did anyways. Lol

is it wired correctly and directly to a 2s or 3s power supply ?
^ power leads coming from the ESC and connecting to the battery.

Another silly inquiry I know...
but you are following the bind instructions correctly ?

I first pressed the bind button on the controller... then plugged in the battery.
never releasing and still depressing the bind button...
I then pressed both control buttons simultaneously on the FOB.
and that was all... it was bound in just a few seconds.
Don't plug in the winch until the bind process is completed.
Once bound... plug in the winch and check for proper spooling.

Voltage supply should be between 6v and 11.1v according to RC4WD
Tho' they did say that the controller will work wired directly to a 3s.

Don't automatically assume that the controller is at fault...
You can check your winch for operation by plugging it in
directly to the battery's + and -
reversing the wire's polarity will allow the winch to spool either in or out.

In other words... make sure your winch is functioning properly and is not culprit.

edit: just ran an operational test... and my controller works well.
