| Another servo question...
I am looking at purchasing a new servo. I have used the solar brand exclusively since my start in crawling. Using the D772 and D771. I'm wondering if anyone has first hand experience with the solar d772 specifically. How does it compare to the Holmes Hobbies servo v2? Or the Savox SA-1230SG? I don't want to spend a fortune on a servo. I find that the solar servo d772 can't turn my 2.2 ripsaws as well as I'd like. The savox is most appealing at the moment. I hope someone can chime in. I have searched around for as much info as I can read. Haven't found a comparison. I like High voltage servos. I run my solar off my bec at 8v. |

How long have you been using this solar? Is this a new issue, or has it never turned them properly? If its been a long time it might be on its way out, I have been using the D772 for well over a year now and have never had any problems what so ever, maybe I've been lucky....I don't know. They sell gear sets cheap maybe it just needs new gears. Also you mentioned you have used them exclusively...if you like them keep using them. Can't respond on the comparisons as I don't own those brands. Now comparing to the Hitec I have, the Hitec does have more torque and most likely is better quality, but like I stated I never had a problem with my solar, and you really can't beat the price.....which by the way is on sale now for $17 lol Cheers, Wade |

I have both the Solar and Savox servos listed. I like both, but you can't beat the D772. Waterproof it, run it on 8v, if it dies you're out $18. I had two of them in my wraith (4ws) which is now on it's 3rd owner and the servos are still going strong...and it's constantly in water and mud. I will buy another if my Savox ever kicks it.

I don't know what the deal is. Tried 2 different d772's in my wraith. I can hold the tire and without much force needed, the servo can't overpower my hand. Bec is outputting 8v. Another truck has a d772 set at about 8v if memory serves and it seems to work slightly better. Could it be the way the wraith steering linkage is vs an scx style? |

The V2 rivals my 7980's in power and beats the 7950 in speed.. It's waterproof an full aluminum case makes it a short in! I can't wait for the factories screw up on the "ti" gears (that where actually ti plated brass..) to be fixed and get them back in my rig's! |

I like my 772's they are good for the money for sure. I have had great luck with my 1230 as well. It's a good bit stronger than the 772 and I run it at 8 volts with no problems.

That does answer my questions. I crawl rocks at my local beach often. They are jagged and very grippy. So a stronger servo is a must at this point. I'll keep am eye out for a used 7950 or wait for the HH. Been keeping tabs on that thread. If you guys had your choice, under $100, what would u but for a servo? Buying used doesn't scare me if it hasn't been completely pooched. |

Once HH has stock again I would go that route as the gears will be fixed and you have a waterproof servo that rivals some of the biggest baddest servo's on the market for less than half price of most of them!

Robert.. For under 100$.. A would buy a used Hitec.. Oh wait, all 12 or so(4x7980 an 8-9x 7950) of mine were bought used for 100$ or less.. Right here in the for sale section.. I even bought one 7950 used, that was non-working, for 45$.. Hitec replaced it with a NIP 7950! Loved that! Now, once HH gets the gears straightened out.. I'll be goin back to both of my V2's and I have been Highly impressed with them! Last edited by winnerone23; 08-29-2014 at 02:01 PM. |

I have both the D772 and the Savox 1230. To me the D772 didn't come to life until I volted them up to 7.5V, at that point they are good enough that I will be trying one in my Mugen Truggy soon, the one I just put in my Savage Flux does great at 7.5V. I run the Savox 1230's in my shafty comp crawler (4WS) and have not had any issues at 6.2V and they have plenty of power to spare. If you are pinching pennies go for the D772 and get it up to at least 7.5v and you'll be fine. For $20 you simply cant beat the solar. White Trash, you run your 1230 at 8v? |

I run the d772 at 8v and its just not enough for my wraith. The big 2.2"'s are killing the servo. I'll save up and start looking for an alternative.

So I gave the D772 a try, did fine until I hit the track, it was dead in 5 laps, the motor came apart from the hard landings

Case is good, gears are good, I think even the control board is good, it's like I knocked the magnets loose in the motor, it requires pliers to turn the pinion. The landings were hard and servo sits verticle in the truck.

Check the wires right at the motor. They break on me all the time with this servo.

Those look good. I'll see if I can get the motor apart tonight and see what's going on in there.

| Re: Another servo question... Happens, my comm blew apart. Thing that kinda irked me about this one was that it was advertised as being coreless. When I went back to look for information, this servo had been erased from both ServoCity and Futaba's list of disco'd models. Replaced it with a Holmes V1 brushless servo, and it's been smooth sailin' since. |

I've been using the turnigy tgy-5521mdhv on mine and my sons Wraiths and so far so good. Not bad at all for under $30 each. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
