Discharge it down as far as you can then bring it to any place that recycles rechargeable batteries.

Lipo's are environmentally friendly, just discharge and toss in the trash.

Nearly all of the useful compounds in lithium batteries can be recovered through recycling. Lots of stuff can be thrown in the trash but there are better ways of disposing most things.

Not saying you're wrong , but when Waste Management disagrees....

You might put it in a recycle bin, but that doesn't mean it gets recycled.

My dad is the head of environmental compliance for one of the big Japanese electronics companies and has served as chairman for the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) so I get some pretty good information on this stuff.

If a company is an RBRC associated company (which Waste Management is not), recycling shipments are weighted and certified for auditing purposes and recycling information is reported to regulatory bodies in the US and Canada. Shipments are certified to be disposed in accordance with Sustainable Electronics Recycling International industry standards.

Well instead of running my trap I actually read up "somewhat" on the RBRC
and I will have to say I looks like a very good program.
I definitely recommend the link you provided for locations though, because after working for the public works dept. for the last 13 years I can say not all things put in a recycling bin make it to their intended final destinations.

Do you mean down to 3.2v? Wouldn't going lower than 3.0v potentially cause a fire?

A lot of us over this way take them out in the back yard and poke them with a pointy stick. Mother Nature takes care of disposing the ashes.

Discharge them down to as close to 0V as possible, you want to take as much stored energy out of them as you can. The danger is trying to charge a battery that has been over discharged but if you're preparing to dispose of a pack, this isn't a concern.

I wouldn't try this in anything I cared about like my house. The only way I would do this would be to hook it up to a light bulb or something and put it in the back yard.

My local hobbytown takes used lipos I would probably just take it to them.

Shoot a couple holes in it, then drop in salt water for a while, after that I dunno lol. I gotta find a place around here that'll take them.
