Default Is this normal for a Solar D772 servo

i had purchased one of the cheap $30 Solar D772 servos online. I know from experience that cheap electronics are cheap electronics, but after reading some reviews i decided to go for it.

I put it on my scx10, with a BEC running 7.4v. The servo is rated at like 350-400 oz of tq at 7.4 volts, so id be happy if it did around half of that.

I took the truck out today with it on it and went on the rocks, on the grass and driving the servo is fine, as soon as i hit the trail and get into rocks a little resistance on the wheels and the servo wont turn until i start moving, but it only does this sometimes. it seems strong then it seems to just notwanna turn. Honestly it seems like my hitec hs 625 has about the same torque, if not a little more than this servo. It wasnt really hot to the touch, but it did get warm.

Hill climbing and forward progress seems ok most of the time.. is there something wrong or are these cheap servos just that overrated?

Ive seen them work quite well, just not on my rigs. I've heard they are hit and miss on being duds tho, usually buy 2 or three hence the cheap price. I buy hitec, buy once and be done completely with a 7950

I've bought 3 of the D772 and one was weak and the other two normal. Yours is defective and you should ask to return it.
