Need some advice, Axial Yeti
 

hi everyone, my Axial yeti kit should be here today and I am thrilled.

I don't know a lot about electronic RC but I really wanted to get one of these, and a friend advised me to order he kit instead of the RTR. I'm down, lets make this thing the best it can be.

So I ended up dropping around $650 on it for everything, I am so excited to get it and put it together.

My questions is really about the battery and motor setup....I have literally 0 experience with electronics in the degree, and I ordered solely off of my friends suggestion and I'm just trying to see if I made a good choice or what I can really expect as far as overall performance, top speed, etc.

The battery is a Duratrax onyx 2s LiPo 5000mAH 25C.

Please let me know of any thoughts or suggestions, just trying to have a really solid fun rig to toss around.

That motor / ESC combo is sensorless. That means you won't have the low end control that you would if you went sensored.
If your goal is to bash around without low end control, then you'll be ok.
I say ok because 4600kv is a bit high for such a heavy truck.

People like running about a 3500kv motor.

Personally I run a 1/8 scale motor at 2350kv and I up the battery voltage to compensate for speed loss with a lower kv motor.

There are a ton of threads with many opinions on this matter. Search for more results.

As far as batteries, you want your battery to be able to deliver more amps than your motor, other electronics Draw.

a 5000mah 25C battery has 125amps to give to the electronics. 25 * 5 = 125

Great, thank you for the feedback.

I have tried to do a lot of searches on the battery/motor setup, I think I have (somewhat) of a fundamental understanding of how that works but was just searching for possibly some specific info on the setup for a yeti.

could you determine whether this setup I currently have is more beneficial than the stock electronics that come with the yeti in the RTR version? I understand that may be someone subjective because of the battery your using...but I have never operated a rtr yeti so Im just looking for some sort of comparison or if it would be wise to modify my setup for more higher end power/speed.

Thanks in advanced, I never knew how much there was to these rigs...

The stock Yeti RTR has a 3150kv sensorless motor. Similar setup to what you have, but you have a higher KV motor. Which = more speed.

Your motor setup really depends on what you're going to be using it for.
