Default Watch out of Hobbywing 1060 esc, its a piece of junk!

Hi,
I've recently purchased a set of two Hobbywing 1060 ESCs to fit to my super crawler with 35T motors.
I quickly installed them and went out for some fun.
Unfortunately one of the ESCs failed after the first 10 minutes and the revers stopped working.
I contacted the seller and he asked me to send the ESC back to China which is not a good solution for me since the shipping fee will be almost equall to buying a new motor.
So I went on and bought a new one and waited another 3 weeks for delivery.
I've installed the new ESC and went out for the rocks.
This time the ESC failed after 15 minutes or so!
This time I've lost the forward function and reverse is working on half speed.
I'm super disappointed from these ESCs.

This is not my first power system from hobbywing, I have the Xerun 150A sensored on my Summit and it superb, but unfortunately I can't say the same about the 1060 esc.
It is simply a piece of junk.

Be aware and don't do the same mistake as I did...

I have had good luck with mine. I bought mine when they were first released. I have around 150 hours on mine with 35t motor in a trail finder. Im not saying you are lying. Just saying that i personally have had no problem with mine. I would like to hear how many others have had problems because if i needed another brushed only esc i would buy the 1060 again.

Holmes Hobbies, buy once, cry once...

Really what did you expect out of a 20$ speed control.

i've been running 2 of them in my MOA super scaler ( 12 pound rig) on 20t motors and 7 inch mickey Baja Claws on 2s and 3s both for about a year now, even submerged them, my son runs 1 in his scx10 too and they've been awesome.

Hobbywing has it's share of cheap clones. IIRC the real ones have a holographic sticker on the packaging, the fake ones do not.

Hmm that's interesting..
The once I got was missing the package.
It was from a very big seller and supposedly done to reduce shipping costs.
Is there any other way to verify it's authenticity?

That's the seller:

I don't believe that it's a fake esc.
The same seller is also selling this esc with the package for a couple of bucks more..

That sounds fishy...no reputable company would remove the product from it's factory box to save on shipping.

As far as I know the sticker is the only way. You might talk to HW and see what they say.

me and about 30 other guys are running the 1060 esc to power servo winches and vehicles and the only failure was when a guy tried 4S on it. It did not like that at all!!

Companies do it all the time, you'll see it a lot with computer components/hardware, electronics, automotive parts and occasionally with hand and power tools. You may also see it with rebuilt/refurbished items. They refer to it as "White Box" because the products generally come in plain white boxes and usually won't include instructions or software (computer parts, electronics) since both can be downloaded from the web. It certainly does reduce costs on a lot of products since there's no graphics on the box, no printed manual or software CD.

However, "shipping costs" seems a little odd when taken at face-value. Even the White Box products still come in a box, but the boxes do add to the total weight of any shipment. So there may be some truth to what the seller is saying.

I have no idea if hobby wing utilities this business tactic or not, but it's not uncommon.

That sucks that you have had problems with them. I purchased mine from RCMart which is in China for $20 and $3 shipping lol. It arrived in 10 days and I have been beating the snot out of mine and it is still going strong.

Cheers,
Wade

I'm not buying "new" electronics that aren't in sealed packaging. I'm the one paying for shipping I'll pay the extra $2 for the box.

Sounds like you're one of those few people who had bad luck.
I'm running several HW esc's (WP1060, WP860, WP10BL60) and really, i never had any issues with them. I love 'm!
Also i adviced them to friends of mine and anyone who's interested in a esc. More and more are using it and i really nver heard any bad stories.

As by coincident, last week i thought my WP860 had broken down on me. So i was pretty pissed. The 860 is for dual motors and both motors would turn. So, logically i thought it was the esc. When i installed it i was stunned. Both motors still wouldn't run. It seemed both motors had been shortcircuiting or such. How big are the odds?

Hobbywing ESC's? I have 'm on a pedestal

Eric, actually the esc came without any box, just a bubble wrap..

Anyway I've contact Hobbywing customer service and wrote them all the details.
They answered me within few hours but I'm suspecting that it's some kind of a robot.
Their answer was a single line which reffered me to the local distributor and a link to the listed distributors on their website.
Of course there is not a single distributor in Israel...

So I guess that that says all about Hobbywing customer service!

I would have to say watch out for operator error. Every time I've had electrical issue's most(not all) have been user errors. Before you put the juice to the system double check every trying.

Thanks for the advice but believe me when I say I checked it over and over again..
I'm not new to the hobby, I've started somewhere at the end 80's.

I'm happy to see that there are some of you guys that have positive experience with this esc, it's give me hope..

Short update,
I had been writing with Hobbywing customer service and can summarize that their Customer service is basically nonexistent!
Really I have never met such an important CS department..

On the other hand the seller took full responsibility and is willing to send a new ESC for half price (13$).
In addition he agreed to send the failed ESCs to HW factory and if they decide to replace them with new ones he will send it to Israel on his expenses.
This is very fair offer IMO.

So I guess that I will give it one last chance even though it gave me nothing but grief until now..
