Default Sensored brushless or waterproof sensorless 4 pole.

I narrowed my options down to the two above for my wraith. I don't run through a lot of water but it has come up on occasion.

Are the sensored motors toast if they come in contact with water?

I've watched videos on how to waterproof but I really don't want to be taking things apart if I don't have to.

For a sensored motor, you'd at least want to treat the board with something. As well as doing something for the sensor wire connection. Typically if it gets real wet you'll lose rotor sensor at the motor until it dries out a bit.

More worry should be paid to the controller imo.

Thanks, I can see where the sensor wires attach but is the board in the motor or the esc?

I meant in the motor. Also a good idea to the do the esc as well though.

Thanks, the esc should be easy as I will be able to get it higher.

Is the motor board easy to treat?

If the motor gets wet is it ruined or will it be fine when it dries out?

Depending on motor I think? My tekin, tenshock and cheap hk motors were fairly easy to conformal coat.

None of my motors have been ruined from being wet after treating.

That's great thanks,

What do you use for coating?

Does plasti dip work?

I use conformal coating. Plastidip isn't up to the task as much, as it can't handle the temps so well.

this is the one you want:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SPJOKK

I used that in my MMP ESC and in the receiver and ROC412 motor and no problems yet, for the sensor plug i used shoegoo and works great

If the waterproofing is so easy why don't the motors come water proofed?

Holmes Hobbies offers their new BL motors waterproofed as an option, but it's really easy to DIY with conformal coating.

Hey guys just thought of something and i'm wondering if it will work.

What if I go with a sensorless wp set and adjust the throttle curve on the tx to be really low at the start. Will that allow some basic crawling?

sensorless startup won't allow any sort of real crawl. You have a crawler, don't screw yourself out of the one thing it should do well.

Thanks, I have an SCX10 that is exclusively for crawling. I also have a Slash 4x4 vxl that's built for speed. I'm looking for a mix on the wraith. I understand that the sensored setup is the way to go but I need to make sure that I'm able to waterproof as well.

Just buy the Holmes Puller Pro from Holmes directly and let them waterproof it for you (they only charge $10 to do it). You'll get a great motor that crawls very well and has plenty of kick, not have to fuss with waterproofing it yourself, and not have to worry that the manufacturer will refuse to stand behind the product after finding out you waterproofed it.
