| ESC and slow speed operation - which ESC?
I have used a variety of ESCs, including Toro SC 120, all manner of castle ESCs both sensored and non-sensored. My question is, what is a good ESC for slow speed operation? My Toro in my SCX10 doesn't get goign until about 10% of the power is applied even though it is sensored. I have used MMPs without a sensor where I can crawl like a champ even with a 7700 kv motor in a racing groundpounder. Similarly I can crawl fine with my MT4 which uses a non sensored ESC. I can scavange a MMP from another ride, but if there is a low cost, highly tunable sensored ESC that people can recommend I am all ears. No, this is not my first rodeo . I just don't want to get an esc that doesn't give me the crawlability that I want. The motor I am running is a 2900 KV 4 pole 3658 sensored piece from Leopard. |

You won't find better than a Castle or Tekin when it comes to control. It's why I based the first Holmes BL controller on the Castle MMP while we engineer our own. But, as a point of interest- before your Leopard motor starts up, does it make noise? There are motors that start up harshly, ones that are not designed for low speed control. If you can hear the motor humming or singing far before the startup, it is more likely that your motor just won't start smooth and it needs a lot of voltage to get going. If that is the case, a smoother motor like the ROC412 or Puller Pro would help out a lot. |

I have PMs turned off to streamline customer service. You can give us an email or phone call though!

John, you were right on the money. My MMP was the ticket. Although not as smooth as your offerings, it smothered my inability to get smooth launches. It's as tame as a kitten or as powerful as a lion! Time to move up in pinion size with this much control! My max motor temps are 115 so there is quite a ways to go, even on 3S. Then again, I do have a few 4S packs sitting around...
