| Tracked Vehicle Radio Help
I have a project I am working on that I am looking for some help on. I picked up a DX5e that I believe will handle what I want but Im looking for some help. I only have the controller right now and need to know what receive I need to pick up. Here is what I am hoping to do with the controls. The project is a scale Bobcat skid steer. 4 ESC Motor combos will run all functions on this. Left stick: Up=Forward Down=Backwards Left=right forward, left back Right=left forward, right back (If i can i would like it to have the ability to make soft turns when at a 45 angle Right stick: Up=Raise Boom Down=Lower Boom Left=Tilt Bucket Right=Raise Bucket I have no idea about any air stuff and have only used 3 channel ground radios. Any help would be great. |

Look into modding the left stick into self centering like the right stick. Then you could have something like this: Left stick: Up - Left track forward Down - Left track back Left - Boom up Right - Boom down Right stick: Up - Right track forward Down - Right track back Left - Bucket tilt up Right - Bucket tilt down |

the steering and throttle will require mixing. a 5e may not have enough custom mixes to do that. especially if you want porportional steering, while moving forward/back. ie not just stop and pivot. also 2 motors and 2 esc should be enough right? like a tank? im counting 4 channels total with your functions so you should have enough channels. svts stick layout would make your life alot easier Last edited by STANG KILLA SS; 11-24-2015 at 01:37 PM. |

The boom and bucket will also run on worm gear setups powered by esc also. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk |

i did something like this a few moons ago with an old tamiya tank and 2 esc's. i had to use a dx6i in the end as i had to use some of the inbuilt mixes so i could have drive functions on one stick and turret on the other, so it seems like as mentioned you may have to look at a programmable radio or spend some time consulting the almighty google for any electronics available to do this.......... or maybe send a message to heyok and see if he is able to whip up a custom mixer for you to add inline to the esc's and rx outputs tony |

Might be cool to build a controller that would watch steering and throttle signals and output two ESC signals. Have to think about that one. |

if your dx5e came with an ar500 then that should be good for your needs as you will need the 4 channels ( ail, elev, rud, thr ). fwd/back would be done with throttle and elevator channel for each driven side ( left/right) and then leaving rudder and aileron channels for boom/bucket functions pretty much giving you control similar to a full size skid steer and a 5th channel left for an extra function, maybe lights or something else. as mentioned earlier you would need to replace the throttles ratchet system back to a spring return to centre setup but that shouldnt be a problem. tony |

as long as its a spektrum air rx and a protocol the dx5e can work with ( dsmx/dsm2 ) then it should be fine, but be cautious as at some point the chineses orange rx spektrum compatible receivers have been known to not work with some newer radios but that could have changed and been fixed now. tony |
