SHV500 12v servo- you don't need a BEC!

SHV500 Servo - Servos - Electronics & Wiring

I am proud to announce the SHV500 servo, a concept I have been working on for the past year! It was a personal project for my own rigs, like most products I develop. I redesigned the motor and changed the drive electronics for rock solid use with 3s lipo power. No BEC needed, just straight battery power! After proving the concept and getting a nice performance boost, we decided to take the jump and offer it for sale. This was only possible because of the support our customers give us, so thank you all! Here is the details from my site:

The BLS SHV500 servo is designed for R/C Rock Crawlers, but at home in any vehicle. It is powered directly from a 3s lipo, eliminating the need for an external BEC! Clean up your wiring, gain space in a tight rig, and enjoy near silent performance with the upgraded brushless motor and circuitry.

FEATURES:

Water-Resistant Alloy Case
O-Ring Seals
All Metal Gears
Brushless Super High Voltage motor
Upgraded N38EH 200c rated magnets
24cm servo lead
24cm 12v power lead with JST plug
3s Lipo compatible (16v max)
1 Year Warranty
SPECIFICATIONS:

Weight: 73g
Dimensions: 41x20x40mm
Spline: 25 tooth (Futaba type) M3 threaded
Torque @ 11.1v: 32.4 kg/cm (450 oz/inch)
Speed @ 11.1v: 0.10 sec
Torque @ 14v: 37.5 kg/cm (520 oz/inch)
Speed @ 14v: 0.08 sec

16 volt max eh? So it can safely take 4s. Hmm my bouncer is due for a servo...

Not quite 4s capable, 4s is 16.8v charged. We couldn't make it powerful and reliable on both 3s and 4s, so it was designed for only 3s use.

How many people run 4s packs? I would be willing to change some components to unofficially make it 4s capable on the next batch.

Love my standard HV500 servo, will def look at one of these for my next rig.

Could you provide an example on how to connect this? do we just use the mini 3s lipo packs or wire in another splitter to power it directly off the battery in the rig.

What's .8 volts between friends? :lmao:

I'm not sure 4s would be a huge seller but I'm sure you'd move them eventually. 3s is rather popular so that was a good move to go there first. Not a lot of us running higher voltage but we are out there.

I usually use 3s batteries, but sometimes use a 2s backup battery. Will this work with a 2s, only weaker and slower?
I'm also curious about how to get power to it.

Any conversion kit for the people that have your regular hv servo?

Re: SHV500 12v servo- you don't need a BEC!

I'll make a wiring example for yall. Basically just wire it in like a bec. We are including a male JST pigtail so it doesn't have to be hardwired in.

I haven't tested on 2s, but that is a fantastic idea to try. Should work, but I'm not sure about how it will act towards the end. I'll test asap.

The servo design doesn't allow swapping of brains or controller. I've been trying to make it happen, but the motor is glued into the case and we can't get around that.

Nice servo, might have to pick one up!
Hey John, I sent an email about a month ago regarding a transaction and haven't heard back yet.

Could your send again or check your spam folder? When we revamped the website our IP address changed and it seemed to upset many email clients.

Very nice! Going to have to get one of these when I order my Puller Pro in the next few weeks. Hope there's plenty in stock.

Re: SHV500 12v servo- you don't need a BEC!

With the inventory of HV500 also stocked up, I don't think the SHV500 is going to sell out in a few days like the HV500 did at first. I have the inventory on the site regulated down, so if they do move fast I'll post up here when we refresh website availability.

But considering how well the HV500 sells, the SHV might also be hard to keep in stock.

Re: SHV500 12v servo- you don't need a BEC!

I was about to place an order for a HV500. How does this connect to the power source? Do I run a pigtail off the ESC or run a separate 3s battery. The rig it will be used in will be only run on 3s.

Crude drawing I made, but hopefully it gets the idea across. I should probably spend some time in CAD to make good looking ones.

The servo has a JST female plug on it, and we are supplying the male pigtail with it. So wire in the JST male pigtail into your deans plug like a normal BEC would, and plug the servo into it. Or folks can hardwire it in to get rid of a plug.

Re: SHV500 12v servo- you don't need a BEC!

Thanks John. I like the idea of no BEC.

How's the water resistance? Does it need any additional water proofing?

JohnRobHolmes 06-29-2016 03:25 PM

Re: SHV500 12v servo- you don't need a BEC!

They are water resistant cases and the PCB is conformally coated. It will take a dunk, but it is not recommended to submarine it. I've rolled mine into creeks a few times without issue.
