| Best tried and true esc/motor combo?
Im Looking to get out of the Brushed era for my scaler and into the brushless. Sooooooo, A little advice from those who have actually used at least 2 different brushless systems please share your experience and advice. Im not so much worried about the water resistence/ water proof. As I am about function and durability.. "thumbs" Last edited by TXScaler; 07-06-2016 at 05:27 AM. |

Got some details about the rig, your current setup, and what you want from a new setup? general recommendations that are the most popular: tekin roc412 and castle MMP Puller Pro stubby 2200kv and Castle micro X Puller Pro 540 and Holmes BLE In 1.9 crawlers that aren't towing or racing, I like the middle combo. I have it installed in a few SCX10 rigs and the Ascender. For 2.2 rigs, I use the third combo. My yeti and two wraiths have this combo. If I want to go nutty overkill, a Monster X controller is substituted, such as my UCfab yeti. Last edited by JohnRobHolmes; 07-06-2016 at 07:52 AM. |

My favorite combo so far has been the Castle MMP and Tekin Roc412 2300kv for a trail rig. On 3S It has what you need for the trail and wheel speed, and when you want more, you just throw a 4S pack in I've tried other motors; Tekin 3500kv PRo4HD, Holmes trailmaster 2 pole, Tekin redline, Roc412 3100kv. The 2300 Roc412 is just my favorite from a power, speed and operating temp standpoint. All the other motors were sensored and worked really well. Some weren't as good at control. Some got really hot. No question the Holmes BLE pro ESC is a great option too (it started life as an MMP and got Johns custom tweaks) I haven't run the new puller pro motors but they really do look awesome. |

I use the ble and trail master 13t sensored brushless in a 6x6 scx10 and it trails well and has the needed control to crawl very will, the motor dose run warm 125. I also use a Dynamite sensored brushless 13.5t motor and esc in my kyosho blizzard and it trails very well and has the control to crawl, the temperature on this setup is usually 95/100 after 3000mha pack. 149 r/c worx team driver |

The Micro X has the same internal resistance as the Axial AE-2, for reference of what is "enough" ESC. The only thing that would make the Micro X run hotter is the physically smaller size and thinner wire being less capable of shedding heat.

Go with Tekin. Extremely smooth, bullet-proof reliability, and the absolute best customer service in the industry.

I run the Mamba Micro X and Holmes Stubby 2200 in my rig and it is rock solid, even on a almost 3hr trail/comp run. For a 1.9 trail rig I will recommend this set up all day long.

I ran this combo in my TF2, for a little while.. It's so ridiculous! At first throttle pull, I thought I was still running the HH 16t Crawlmaster pro/BRXL combo! Then I let off the throttle and I about fell over! Drag brake, in brushless!? Get out!!! But, like the rest of my scaler rigs, I needed more Powah!!!! So I'm rocking a HH puller pro 540 and a WP BLE.. 540xl and BLE in my 2.2(on 4s) And a trailmaster pro in my scx.. (again, on 4s).. Just last weekend, I tested 4s in my TF2, it was Great!!!!!!!! I've ran other motor combo's and Tekin was highly my favorite! As I started peeling magnets off the rotors(4 different rotors) and frying ESC's(3 different).. I just started replacing them with HH.. I'll never go any other direction and customer service, is 2nd to no one!

WP= waterproof.. HH WP ESC.. The RX 8 is good to go, with the HH motor.. It's just Huge!! Lol.. Your problem is the Portals.. Much like my problem with the TF2, was the 2 speed trans.. I also switched to a single speed, since that post... 2 yrs ago! Lol.. Good job searching!!!!! Seems like a lot of people forget how to do that.. (since book face and all . If you drive downhill often I would get a mamba X over a ble. The newest mamba firmware has amazing downhill control. but it makes more motor noise. and everyone loves the aux wire. If you want a quieter esc the HH ble has higher pwm frequencies for that. but downhill is not as good. I think the Hobbywing XeRun xr10 can do both of these things, but I have no experience with them. If you don't care at all about noise or love the sound of giant turbocharger spooling up and jet engines, the revolver SW4 combo has phenomenal torque in an iddy biddy can. |

I have a Mamba X with a Castle Slate 2850kv. Extremely happy with the low speed performance and startup. I wish the motor had a larger rotor though, as the drag brake is a bit weaker than my ROC412’s of the past.
