The second battery, which is my 1200mah is now showing 4.1v on the screen, before it would usually show 4.0 for a split second and then drop to 3.8 and 3.9 switching back and forth. It is now staying solidly on 4.1v... I still have 2 more to test.

That's what my 800mah is and has been doing.

its starting to look an awful lot like the built in charger on the radio is not fully charging the batteries... my stand alone charger is doing a very good job of charging them up fully.

I'm not sure about the built in charger...It has one, it's not feeding it raw voltage from the usb. But I couldn't find any documentation on it or figure out exactly what parts they are using. According to my meter, it feeds the battery 4.25 volts. If I had to guess the weird fluctuations you guys are seeing is because the battery has a built in protection circuit so when the voltage goes over a certain threshold it disconnects the battery until the voltage drops. The charge circuit sees this then cuts off, then the battery reconnects then the charger trys to charge again so the battery disconnects. |

I am not seeing this fluctuation when charging, but when the battery is supposedly fully charged and displaying the volts on the screen...it fluctuates quite a bit and then settles out at about 3.8 or 3.9 volts. Now when I charge it in the stand alone charger I bought recently, it starts out around 4.0 to 4.1 and within a few seconds it is a steady 4.1 volts.. I am thinking that the stand alone charger is doing a better job of charging it fully than the built in charging circuit in the radio.. |
