Another vote for the DS3218. Swapped out my stock scx10ii tactic servo.

Seems to have more power and faster response. We will see how long it lasts.

Theres a bunch of guys in Cape Town loving the 3218’s in their trx’s too. Some of them beat on the rigs hard. They’re surviving.

Quick question and I don't want to clutter another section with a new thread so... since a lot of the servo-guru's seem to check in on this thread, I thought I'd ask...

Looking to replace the steering servo on my TF2. I was going to go with a HH HV500 v2 but says only 2S compatible. I want to run 3S on this rig so I'm looking for an ALL metal gear servo, 3S compatible, 300-400 oz, and direct drop into the TF2 Marlin Crawler. Price isn't a huge factor as long as I can hopefully stay around $100 or less.

Recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I'd go with a Savox as long as it didn't make noise. Opinions?

If the Holmes is what you want, I'd just cough up the extra $20 and get the 4s compatible version.

Thanks Jim. I've got the shv500v2 in each of my TRX4's and I love 'em. I guess I was just hoping to wind up under $100 for this one since I don't think I need any more than about 300oz. I appreciate the reply.

I sure like the looks of the 1283. Seems to tick all the boxes.

Those don't run on 3S either. If you're considering these, it seems like the 2S Holmes comes right back into the mix too.

That said, I've got the 470 in 2 of my trucks and I'm very happy with it. If 300oz-in is sufficient for you, there's also the Promodeler 305 at $70.

I wasn't aware that the 1283sg was not 3S compatible. Thank you. I may take a look at the PM DS305 CLHV. Wish it was brushless though.

If I did happen to go with the HH shv500 v2, I assume that it would plug directly into the rx and would not need the jst plug connected to anything?

Reefs RC is local - From the RC hobby For the RC hobby...they seem to have a nice variety of hi-power servos, and at least one of them will run at 8.4v think. I guess that's not 3s either eh? [shrug]
https://reefsrc.com/

AFAIK everybody runs a BEC if their receiver won't cover them.

Are we talking powered directly off a 3s battery direct, or utilizing a 3s through a BEC? Cause I only know a handful of servos that will take power from a 3s direct and none of them are under 100 bucks. 3BrothersRC has one they claim will run off them direct. When someone says run off a 3s battery, I take that as having operating voltage at 8.4, which you won't get from a 2s except under the most ideal of ideal circumstances on a fresh fresh battery.

Here is the 3brothers. White Trash gave it a try. You can look up his thoughts on it if you want to.

Thanks for all the help. I think I'm heading in the right direction now. Looks like the jst on the HH shv500v2 needs to be cut off and soldered into the battery leads or I'd have to solder a jst female end into the stock ESC . That was something I wasn't aware of. Or if I went with the Savox I'd have to solder in a Castle 10a external BEC or similar.

When I change my ESC connectors over to my preferred XT60s, I usually solder a JST plug in parallel anyway. I always seem to end up adding something to my trucks that require battery power at some point, so having that JST plug on there is very helpful. You may want to consider doing the same.

If you look on that 3brothers site, they have no solder jst connectors for running servo off the balance plug of lipos

@ DukeMinnix and Jim85IROC- Thank you, guys! This has helped greatly. Whether I solder in a jst directly to the batt connector wires or go with the 3Bros no-solder route, you've really straightened me out here.

Now I just need to get back to figuring out which servo to go with haha! Again... much appreciate the clarification of what I was neglecting to also consider.

Taking this idea further, I have a couple XT60 pass-through connectors (Male to Female) with JST leads coming off. I can easily "add" a LiPo-powered accessory to any vehicle (using XT60's).

Gearhead RC makes the XT60 and Deans like you're talking about, I have the XT60 on my Bomber powering my HH SHV500 v1.

I did buy one of the balance-lead power take-offs for trying out in Bomber build #2...

On a crawler that's probably perfectly adequate. I come from the basher side of the world, and because most of my bashers are still running 2S, I'm flowing a lot of current. Because of that, I always try to minimize the number of plug-in connections I have between my battery and my motor. Old habits die hard I guess.
