Default Mamba Firmware V2.02

Castle has just released a new firmware version for all X series controllers(Micro X, Sidewinder Micro 2, Mamba X, Monster X, and Mamba XLX). This is the largest release we have ever done, and it's primary focus is the crawler market.

New Features
  • Added new 'Auxiliary Wire Mode' 'Rock Race/Crawler Mode'. Allows the user to switch 'Reverse Type' to 'Crawler Reverse' and back to the Castle Link programmed 'Reverse Type' while adjusting drag brake using a third channel on your transmitter. Especially useful for crawler / rock racers. See Castle Link help for more information.
  • Added 'Idle/Error Beep Disable' setting to allow users to disable certain audible error warnings. 'Datalog Full' warning is now disabled by default. See Castle Link help for more information.
  • Added option to enable a sensor lost warning to 'SmartSense' mode.
  • Added 'Motor Temperature Cutoff' to Mamba X and Monster X.
  • Added 'CHEAT' mode to Monster X. (Not intended for 4 pole motors)
  • 'Motor Direction' was added to stick programming as the last setting #6. Option 1 is 'Forward' and option 2 is 'Reverse'.
  • Added new error condition for corrupted settings. Rapid beep with all LEDs blinking. Must be Castle Linked to repair.
Improvements
  • Improved drag brake feel when transitioning between idle and power. Especially useful for crawler vehicles in both brushless and brushed 'Motor Type' modes.
  • Improved sensored motor start smoothness when drag brake is engaged. Especially useful for crawler vehicles.
  • Increased number of throttle steps for improved throttle smoothness.
  • Reduced minimum power levels. Especially useful for crawler vehicles. Reduced power jump when transitioning from high partial throttle to full throttle.
  • Decreased throttle latency, especially when using high RX frequency radios.
  • Improved sensorless motor start smoothness.
  • Improved motor timing accuracy.
  • Improved 'CHEAT' mode. Should result in an increase in motor torque in ROAR style Stock motor applications.
  • Increased the maximum sensorless electrical RPM to 200,000.

During internal testing we handed Joe in tech support a SCX10 Deadbolt with a 1406 2850kv motor and a Mamba X. He was blown away by the improvement in the low end smoothness. We then told him to look at the motor, we had given it to him with the sensor wire unplugged. He plugged it in and it was even better.

Low speed running with drag brake enabled has been vastly improved in both sensored and sensorless setups. This is due to a new method of implementing a drag brake. Before if you were on a hill and touched the throttle it would release the drag brake and try to drive the motor forward. If you didn't give it enough power to get the motor spinning, it would roll backwards down the hill. Now it continues to hold the drag brake on until the motor is up to speed. This results in a lower minimum RPM, smoother startup, and no roll back.

A few quotes from our Beta testers:
Quote:
the control is bonkers, slight movements up or down inclines were very easy. I've never been able to manipulate my truck so well
Quote:
Loved the new software and figured out the switch settings for the crawler mode to race mode. That feature is incredible!
Quote:
I still can't get over how easy it is to control on steep inclines. It's almost unstoppable. It creeps flawlessly when I need to get over rocks and it's like a rocket when I need to get up a slippery hill. The in between is so smooth to transition to as well.

I'm anxious to get this software installed on my bomber. I was wondering why it would roll backwards sometimes. Sounds like some good updates

Yes! My idea of Rock Race/Crawler Mode has been implemented! I suggested that months ago. I appreciate that it was implemented and it didn't take that long either.

Hopefully we did it in a way that works for you.

X-series Rock Race/Crawler Auxiliary Wire Mode

We are always taking customer feedback and ideas. We are going to keep improving this new firmware based on feedback we get, so if anything doesn't work right, let us know and we'll deal with it as soon as we can.

It seems like it will work great. I can't wait to try it.

According to the nice email I got, I have a MMP with a bad sensor port, they will upgrade me to another MMP now for $75. And shipping, but I must wait until 6 months from discontinuance ..... so 3 long months

Why the long wait? That doesn't even make sense...

Mike,

If you send the ESC in to us right now we could trade it out with another Max Pro for $75 + shipping. We won’t be able to trade out the ESC to the new Mamba X ESC for another 3 months (we don’t allow trade-ins on new product for 6 months after release). If you’d like to wait until then we could trade it in with a Mamba X at that time.

Not my rules......

Oh I was thinking you had to wait 3 months for a replacement MMP. I'd be happy for that offer of an MMX instead of getting a refurb MMP.
