Here's some of the information from Castle itself, so no one thinks either of you are promoting hearsay:

this is old info, but still good on the topics that Pat DelCastillo touches on.

This sort of motor, sometimes refered to the "Epic can" for the original Japan makers, was made by the millions before brushless became the rage a decade ago. You could probably take a Trinity motor made in 1999 and mix parts with this motor. In fact using an old high-end motor's can with the new high-turn armature would probably lead to a stronger motor, presuming they fit together.

These are not EPIC cans in any way shape or form. EPIC stand for Ernest Provetti Import Company, Ernie P is the owner of Trinity. All of his brushed motors back in the day were made by Tokoyo Mechs. Tokoyo Mechs was located in Japan. The owner of Tokoyo Mechs died around 2010 or so, Sagami (the other japanese motor company) bought all the remaining molds and destroyed them. ROAR rules required they be stamped with the importer, so ernie created EPIC. Trinity did have their new speed gem line made in china, but was at a different maker than who makes these...and look nothing like them.

These motors share nothing similar to any epic can really. The only part that is similar is the brush hoods, which were for the most part a direct rip off of the trinity stock motor units, but they have since changed them a bit so they don't look identical. Endbell is different, different magnets, armature is completely different.

While the arms in these units work well with the magnets in the current cans....they work so so when placed in other cans with stronger magnets...

And for the record, the term EPIC can was coined when trinity moved to the squared can on stock motors to prevent rotating the endbell on them since the timing was locked at 24 degrees. The EPIC cans work terrible in most crawlers since you are stuck at 24 degrees of timing (which would be a negative 24 degrees in reversed rotation trucks or the rear of an MOA), along with the fact they all have huge cutouts for cooling and lower strength magnets for more RPM.

I've settled on my 35t with 12 degrees advanced timing and 16/90 gearing on my SCX10
It's alright on 2s but it wakes up a good bit on 3s.

Perfect for trailing and at that price no need to worry when you drive it through mud or water.

You can buy the whole enchilada shipped for $10.
Why would you think of opening the can and installing 6.00 brushes in a 10.00 Motor ?

Look for "standup brushes" for a 540/550 motor on ebay or elsewhere. The cheapest will be ~$5, but as stated the comm will need to be cut by the time the brushes are gone. They might be rebuildable, but they're still "throw away" motors.

Gool = goolishly cool.

Looks suspeciously like a YR Hackmoto. I got one last time, not to be able to rebuild it, but just to try out a little different brush configuration. The huge solder tabs make putting leads on a breeze - especially for us non-pro solder noobs.
