I have ran the stubby in an SCX10 II and a Standard and XL in a Bomber. The stubby is the best brushless motor I have had in a SCX10. The Standard is my favorite in the Bomber. I now have the XL in a Yeti trophy Truck.

In my opinion, The Stubby is great for smaller rigs (1.9). The Standard is good all around. The XL is a power beast but lacks at the super slow crawling.

FWIW, I run all my Puller Pros on 3s. The Stubby is 2200 KV. The Standard and XL are around 3500 KV. Awesome motors!

What vehicle are you looking to put this motor in, and what is the purpose of that build?

What kv puller pro are you using in your bomber? And how is its low speed control?

I have 3500 KV Puller Pros in me and my son's Bombers. Low speed control is fantastic with Mamba Monster X. I have them geared 12/64. No question, my favorite motor in the Bomber.

I beat the snot out of this rig at the Axialfest Ultra 5k last week. No troubles.

Thanks, I am considering putting one in my bomber. Ether that or save $60 and install a mamba x castle sensord combo

What are the trade offs of having a stubby? Shorter, smaller, lighter? Does that mean it has less power too? Trying to learn something.

What I mean is, say you had a 2200 kv stubby in a standard scx10. What kind of difference would you see, if you swapped it out with a standard 2200 kv?

Torque is about all you give up between Standard and Stubby. I would be willing to bet that a guy couldn't tell the difference in a 1.9 chassis. I have not needed any more torque than what the Stubby gives me in my SCX10 II.

I once read that the stubby is basically the same output as a Tekin Pro4 and the Standard is similar to a Pro4HD. Difference is Holmes are tuned for better resolution at lower RPMs. I feel that is pretty accurate.

It's for an upcoming Gelande II build that I intend to use for general trailing and light crawling.

Stubby is just what you will like!

I have both, Stubby and Standard, both 2700kv since I wanted to stay in the mid range speed, though you may like the 2200 stubby for your purpose..

They are just great motors...!

Is there a difference in operating temperature between the two? Will a stubby heat up faster because of the shorter can?

Thanks slimfire. I'll have to give the stubby a try. Been using the standards in most rigs but my new build might benefit from a bit less weight.

Get the Holmes motor not the Castle motor. I have no experience with the new Castle motors, but I do have the Holmes and it's awesome. It's my second favorite behind the Tekin ROC412. For the Bomber I would suggest the standard NOT the stubby. I just see no reason to get the stubby when you have plenty of room for the standard in the Bomber. It would be interesting to see what JRH would say in this case.

Get the Mamba X ESC. The auxiliary wire was made for vehicles like the Bomber!

Edit: Here's a post from JRH from a similar thread.

Love my Puller Pro 540 2200kv always. However, if I have smaller and lighter rig like SCX10, I will go for Stubby

So what does the number for the KV represent? I was thinking about this one (thanks mikemcE) but not sure what the number means. I will be running a wraith at about 10lbs and a Mamba Max Pro. I want to crawl but haul some ass occasionally. Suggestions?
