My R1 was fun and expensive . Awful turn radius , portal gears will fail, along with driveshafts. BLE / Tekin 17.5 sensored .

Any idea if the Mamba Micro X can handle an 1800kv Revolver on 2S and 3S in a TRX-4 Sport kit?

No, that's definitely not the Micro.

I've been running a Mamba Micro X and 1800kv 540 (35x44) Revolver on 3s in my 8lb Wraith for a few weeks now, hottest I've seen was 130°. Obviously the Mamba X has more overhead than my Micro X, but geared properly, the Micro X should work fine in a TRX4.

What pinion are you running and how hard do you plan on pushing it. Jon has stated a few times the weight rating on these is different if your just crawling. But i get the feeling that a bunch of people think anything you do with a crawler is considered crawling. If you want to go full throttle in a tall grass field or high speed hill climbs doing burnouts till the batteries die then no. For just putting around in rocks it could be fine. Any esc and motor combo with the exception of non compatible hardware, can be used for crawling with a 10lb rig provided you have low enough gearing to reduce the torque applied to the motor which will in turn increase amp draw. So unfortunately there is no fool proof way to be shure it won't over heat. But if it does you have the option to gear down, stay in first gear, find an easier path or drive slower.

I think in 1st gear you should be perfectly fine but I would monitor it in both gears all the same. Second gear might be pushing it. Edit: oh the sport, is single speed, probably ok but the trx4 is such a tank I don't think saving weight is going to change much, I would get the sw4 instead.

In my own revolver/micro x car, it's geared fairly low at 51.4:1 (11/58 pinion/spur, 2.6 trans, 3.75 rear diff, 2.92 front) and is my primary crawler these days (used more like a 2.2s than a scale/trail truck.) Castle says the micro x is fine for an 8lb crawler or scaler, but I'd agree that the micro x is too small (30 amp?) if you're gonna be running at full load all the time. The revolver is rated at 400w, so divided by 11.1, it should be capable of pulling 36a continuous. On 2s, your amp draw for the same work/wattage is going to shoot up to 54 and the esc is really going to suffer. My thought is that if you run 3s, err on the low/slow side of gearing, watch your temps (mostly the esc), and don't drive like a knucklehead full-time, it will work well.

In this application, I think I'd rather have the micro x than the sw4, just for the aux function. If you think you'll need more esc, such as running in a 2 speed car, I'd sooner recommend the mamba x (which I believe is also 60a, as well as the sw4?) so that you could run it on 4s instead, and have a functional built in bec (both the micro x and sw4 will need an external bec, unless you're planning to run your super sweet NOS hitec 645 that you still have from 20-some years ago.) Geared for the same top speed, more volts equals less amps. Less amps equals less heat. Do it to it.

If you did not have an ESC and would need to buy a new one, I'd fully recommend a Mamba X. I guess my assumption was that he already had a Micro X (which was the case for me) which would get the job done in the specific scenario I described. I guess the only time I would suggest the Micro X otherwise (assuming you didn't already have one) would be if you were extremely limited on space.

I ask Castle regarding the micro x 1406 combo and they recommend the mamba x for the trx. But this was for a Defender, maybe in a light sport the micro works, but will be close to the limit of the micro. And to run electronics at the limit is not a good idea in my eyes, i like to have some buffer on my electronics.

Oh I was mixing up the micro x with the Holmes Hobby micro that's just a circuit board. I wasn't aware the micro x has a aux wire that's cool. I ran my 11lbs bomber as a crawler with the sw3 for a year with no issue, but it was like 95:1 gear ratio on a stock axial 35t motor. Motor and esc lasted for a year and still working. Probably same amp rating.

Hello, new to crawling but not RC. I just picked up a trx4 sport kit and I have a mamba X, I have yet to choose a motor as I’m not sure which. What motor/kv is recommended on 3s for crawling. As well as pinion/spur combo to start with recommended motor. Sorry if this a common repetitive question.

You can't really get a bigger spur for the trx4. I run my trx4 with 2200kv and a 9t pinion. I would say don't get a slower motor then that. I think people mosty prefer the 2700 or 3200 kv motors. And another recent post has the 1512 fitting in it so that new monster motor from holmes hobbies will probably fit as well (edit: I checked the Holmes motor is 10mm longer and 2mm wider so not sure if it fits) if you want ungodly amounts of power at your disposal.

The sport version comes with a 39/17 for gearing. I need to purchase the 45 and some smaller pinions.
Thanks

I haven't looked into the sport transmission. But I know on my 2spd bronco the stock 45t spur is about as big as you can go before the teeth hit the outer wall. It's an OK design for the masses but for people that realy like to tweak stuff there are limatations in this easy to use design as far as pinion spur combinations. It's not horrible, but I can't use the 48p gears that I prefer.

Hey, can someone explain gearing up or gearing down a rig? Do you just swap out the spur and or pinion gears to achieve a different ratio, or do you also go in and change transmission gears/axle gears to adjust ratios? Also, what do you guys think of metal spur gears?
