Thanks for the reply.
I am curious about what the benefits over stock parts would be. What noticeable difference could I expect in performance between the stock Dynamite ESC and the HW 1080 in the Barrage, for example? The benefit of the Dynamite ESC over the 2-in-1 ESC/RX unit in the Amp kit is more obvious to me, especially the low voltage cutoff to use the 2s lipos packs we have, but would the Amp be faster, or run better? I would imagine that the Futaba receiver and radio would be better than the ECX stuff, except I am still too new to really understand and appreciate the benefit of a better TX/RX. ECX claims that their RX is waterproof, whereas the Futaba RX is not.

I am not one to upgrade for the sake of upgrading, and I would prefer to limit the amount of extra, unused parts.

Thanks again,
MP

Higher-end radios are smoother and give more precise control, especially on the low-end - just as a better ESC and motor does.

A cheap $40-$50 FlySky (GT3B or GT3C) radio typically has better control over the signals sent to the ESC than RTR radios do and plenty of extra features as well.

With crawlers, it's all about the smooth start from a stop, and low-speed control.

That's the same reason sensored brushless motors are preferred over sensorless.

If you're just bashing and spinning donuts everywhere - cheap electronics are OK.

I just picked up a Hobbywing 1080, myself - the fact that it come with a little programming box that doesn't require a computer is really helpful.

Many parameters can be adjusted - 15 (!) in all...

And you can always easily waterproof your receiver - could be done as simply as putting it in a balloon.

On my Vaterra Ascender Chevy K10, I'm removing the Dynamite RTR servo, 35t 540 motor, ESC and Spectrum DX2e tx/rx.

I''ll be installing an upgraded $19 20kg waterproof servo, $20 Holmes Hobbies 21t 550 motor, the $40 HW 1080 ESC, and a $50 FlySky GT3-C.

I can't wait to try it all out!

These upgrades were chosen based on many other users glowing recommendations and what my budget would allow.

I've spent way too much on the Axial Bomber and all its upgrades that I'll hopefully complete building one of these days and decided one money pit was enough!

Thanks Durok,

I am going to order a HW 1080 ESC and an ECX receiver. The HW will go in the Barrage and the receiver will be used in the Amp kit. I decided I want all of our trucks to have their own TX so we can have the option to let lots of people all run together. The only unused part will be the 2-in-1 ESC/RX unit I will not use for the Amp, so I'll have to figure out what I can do with that.

Cheers,
-MP

So if my bomber seems faster on reverse, I should swap the wires on the motor and then the TX so the quicrun 1080 is in the "right" direction?

Thats weird since when I first plugged it, forward was going backwards so I reversed the motor wires without touching the TX.

What I suspected based on all the programming options for the 1080.
Got gold plugs and 14g wire, can do twisted pair leads with connectors, pics coming.
Thanks guys!

What connectors do I need to get to solder onto a HW 1080 to connect it to the Dynamite 390 motor in the V2 Barrage kit? Thank you!

If your motor is faster in one direction, it's probably timing (endbell is rotated a couple of degrees in one direction = more power one way). Which motor is it?

I have a Traxxas titan 21T 550.

I think I did the calibration when the throttle was reversed and then swapped the motor wires.

The esc might think backwards

If its faster in reverse, it needs to get switched. Forward should be should faster.

Also, if your running it reversed, it should be set to 0 degrees timing. Its bad for the motor to run advanced timing reversed.

I dont think there is timing on the Traxxas Titan sealed cans.

I will recalibrate the esc first and then swap the motor wires if it still dosen't feel right.

The 3 wires from brushless motors seems less confusing...

There is some timing advance on the 21t Titans... that's why they sell the 3075 & 3075R versions.

CCW: Counter-Clockwise = Traxxas 3075 Standard Motor Rotation = CCW when looking at pinion

CW: Clockwise = Traxxas 3975R Reverse Rotation = CW when looking at pinion

Forward or reverse rotation Traxxas 21t?

OK I have the 3975.
Can you guys help me figure out how it should be installed in the Bomber?

Normal rotation - the one you have should be correct.

Everybody else is doing a great job at answering questions! We have a great group of well educated folks in here

Sounds like the motor is running with reversed timing, but you should have the proper traxxas motor for the bomber. Since the HW1080 doesn't have a reverse setting, you might need to swap motor wires and also reverse your throttle channel. But then it may not arm unless you have enough reach with the neutral trim. I haven't worked with the 1080 yet, take my suggestion with a grain of salt

I will run some tests
Thank you all for the answers.

This non-sense is pushing me towards brushless a little more everyday...

How hard is it to color code the motor and esc wires? At least with brushless it's ABC to ABC...

Looks like yellow is positive and blue is negative for motor connection. And the titan already has red/black wire leads attached. Yellow to red and blue to black. Seems pretty simple?

I generally start with a 15 or 14t. My favorite comp motor is either CrawlMaster pro 13t or Puller 500 13t. They are faster and can be geared down more but retain very smooth startup.

I have one question:

I'm running a Novak Eiger 2s/3s ESC along with Spektrum DX4S, Savox 0231MG Servo, Warn 9.5 Winch and Led lights. I would like to upgrade my rig to 3S battery. What do I need to do, install or purchase to do so?

Cheers
