Solar servos?

I've had all the brands Holmes, Savox, Hitec and Futaba not that I've been unhappy I am just curious and looking to save a few bucks when and where possible. I have seen multiple good reviews on them. My questions are first off Spline count? And people that have or are using them any problems? Sorry if this has been discussed to death!!

Never heard of them.. I'll look them up. Thanks. It's not that I'm not happy with the other brands. I'm just looking at some places to save a few bucks.

Solar servos are the best value in RC.

Solar isn't the place . I have five dead ones in the parts bin and 3 promodeler s in rigs running. They get about 11 hours a week run time over 2 years.

I don't think anyone has even broken one yet. Do your self a favor and read the thread on them.. Solars are good as servo winches and that's about it.

Just ordered a Solar D772 and a 23t aluminum servo horn.. If it's a bust it's a bust, but I had to try. If it is definitely can't be the worst $30 I've spent in RC!! Lol

I have a few Solar D772s in my crawlers including one in my Axial SCX10 which was my first scaler a few years back. Despite mud, water, and more tumbles than I can count it's still going strong. They just need a BEC.

Thanks.. You think even with a Mamba X and their strong internal BEC?

You should probably be fine with an X ESC.

Re: Solar servos?

I use D772 and D771 servos to make winches because they suck ass as a steering servo. Way over rated and for them to be adequate on anything I've tried them on I had to have the bec set to 9v and they were still marginal. They make great winches though. One thing for sure is they are built strong, gears are awesome. I see some have good results with them, I'd rather spend a few more bucks and get something good.

I use a few 772's. Work fine for me, only complaint is they they tend to be loud. Quite a bit of buzzing at center. Doesn't seem to be hurting them in any way, and never caused problems. Just annoying more than anything.

I have a 772 in my Ascender and it’s super loud and one in my TRX4 that is super quiet...

I make winches out of them and rarely do I get the same servo twice, the boards seem to change by the month and sometimes the motor holds, sometimes I have to secure it, sometimes I have to leave the board in so the motor stays in place. Point is you may have two different servos being the reason one is quiet and one is loud.

On the ones I can remove the board I make light controllers out of them and run them on straight 3s without issue, I don't know if the servo would function for steering on straight 3s or not.

Re: Solar servos?

I have about 6 installed in various duties on several rigs, so far they have been doing fine, i understand the trying to save a few bucks, i also understand you asking about this particular Brand not a comparison with others, so i can say for $30 go ahead.

Re: Solar servos?

Well I said I'd update you guys after getting the servo nad trying it out.. So far I love it. It doesn't say it's waterproof but I took it apart and put some marine grease in and it has o-rings top and bottom. The center section is aluminum, I wasn't expecting that. It is very strong at the stock ESC voltage and a lot faster than I thought it would be I can't wait for my new ESC so I can run it at 7.4v. It is a 23 tooth horn. The servo wire is a little too short for the TRX-4. Extension is needed. Other than that it went in perfect and I'm very happy for only spending $30 shipped to my door. If anyone has questions just ask and I'll try and answer.
