| Winch / controller fried?
I’m hoping you guys can help with a winch problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I’m running a SSD Ox winch with a HeyOk fused relay winch controller, https://www.rpphobby.com/ProductDeta...e=HEY3PWR4JSTY http://www.ssd-rc.com/ox-power-winch.html The controller is plugged into the 3S battery for my truck (SCX10). It’s worked very well until today when I found the winch had spooled itself in without me noticing while the hook was connected to the bumper - must have bumped the transmitter switch without realizing. I’m not sure how long the winch was bound up. The line was so tight that I couldn’t engage the free spool until I took the bumper apart to give the line some slack. The winch doesn’t respond to the transmitter now. When I toggle the transmitter switch, I can hear and feel the relay clicking in the HeyOk controller, but the winch doesn’t move. I tried several times over the course of an hour, but no luck (the controller has a ‘self-resetting’ fuse - was hoping this was the issue and that I just needed to wait for it to reset). Are there any diagnostics you can suggest for the winch or the controller? I’m happy to run through tests - would be great if I can save either one! Thank you! I had a similar issue recently. Running a RC4WD Warn winch and HeyOK relay controller, the controller got stuck on pulling the line in and when I finally unplugged the battery, the winch wasn't responding anymore. Same as you, the relay was clicking but nothing was happening. I tested the winch controller with a different winch and the winch with a different controller when I got home. Turned out a dead winch motor was the problem as getting stuck pulling the line in must have fried the motor. Swapped in a new motor and all was good. |

Thank you! I can do the same swap test if I take a few things apart ... will start looking for a new motor also in case that’s the problem. Was pretty bummed. At least I know the winch line is strong enough, lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro | |

It’s been a while, but I wanted to follow up on how this turned out. I was going to swap winches / controllers as suggested by svt923. My only spare controller, though, was hardwired to a servo winch and buried inside my Bomber. So I sent a PM to HeyOk and asked if there were any tests I could do on the controller with a multimeter. He got back to me within around 10 min (on a Saturday morning !); super helpful, basically real-time replies as I worked through the tests. It’s awesome to be a part of this fantastic community and be supported by such quality vendors! Turns out the motor was fried. So I sent a PM to SSD, who sold me a replacement even though they discontinued the winch a year ago. Unreal! I can’t think of anywhere else where I’ve seen this kind of support. The winch is back together now and working like new. Thank you HeyOk and SSD! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
