Default HH SHV500v2 Servo issues

Recently purchased a Holmes hobbies SHV500v2 and have been unable to get them to work with my rr10 bomber. The first servo I received was DOA and would only sporadically and erratically respond to inputs . Sent that servo back last month and received a "new" updated servo this week. The new servo worked for about 30 seconds on the bench before it released the magic smoke and stopped working.

Two servos and over a month of time later I am left wondering if there are known issues with the HH servos? Or do I just have bad luck...

My Setup:
4S Pack
Mamba X
Flysky GT3
Servo wired in Parallel with ESC.

Only problems in the beginning was a broken middle gear pin and would take out the gears. But that has been fixed. Then some of the new shv v2 had bad programming. Contact holmes again and send it in.

I bought one that had firmware issues and was twitchy. I sent it in and got it back yesterday. Installed the new one in my truck last night and all seems well so far.

I have one wired straight to a 3s without trouble. Didn't know it could handle 4s. Maybe that had something to do with it.

The original SHV500 is rated for 3S, and the SHV500v2 is rated for 2-4S...

All of the V2 servos are having a problem with the pcb. On 3s or 4s, they are having inconsistent performance issues. Mine was slow after about 15 min of use. I suggest contacting Holmes hobbies to get an RMA. Problem is that they are talking like 2 months to get them replaced. Im sure John will chime in. He would have a better explanation.

My version 1 was really nice. It worked great until the center pin bent. That caused the case to crack and a problem with centering. They upgraded me to the v2 and I bought 2 more v2 servos for my 2 other projects. Problem is that now I have 3 servos to send in for replacement.

Is this issue only happening with SHV500V2 or is this happening with the HV500V2 also?

It was just the SHV v2 with the issue. We have finally sorted the issue and have some samples for retesting, while the main batch is getting remanufactured. Apologies to customers that had issues and have been waiting, there isn't much we can do to speed up the 2 month production time. I've just been sitting on 100s of useless servos that would normally be good stock, I always aim to have continuous inventory and supply for customer support.

I put a new SHV500 V2 in my Wraith and I haven't noticed any issues yet, should I send it in anyway? what should I look for, just glitching?

If you don't see an issue, you don't have it. We didn't determine that every single one had the problem, but that it was at least the majority of the batch. Every one I pulled from the shelf had the problem.

Take your time, at least you were honest and had the guts to do a recall.

I'm having also issues with a new HOLMES HOBBIES SHV500V2 that I bought recently. Have a loud constant noise that sounds like electricity and is twitchy all the time. Also after about one minute of being powered up it's very HOT. Sent a message to Holmes Hobbies, let see what they reply...

I have the V1 SHV500 and the top cover center pin "hole" is badly deformed.....Can anybody with the V2 tell me if there is a bushing etc. used in the V2 to stop the center pin digging the recess/hole bigger over time?

Yes, the v2 has bushings in the case.

Finally broke a gear in my SHV500v2 which I expected would happen eventually. Changed it out and working great again.

I am extremely happy with all of Holmes Hobbies products except for one, and even it works as intended. Best of all they all come with amazing customer support.

Sorry to hear your having these issues though.

I have a V2 and thought it was only rated for a 3s. I thought btheybjust gave it more Headroom

This maybe explains why mine was a twitchy mess when I got it but after a bit of use it has been ok.

Well I can sure confirm that. And also super happy to see a company making its products better. All the products cannot be their best versions already as V1, but if the company actually listens to the experiences from the field and goes on to fix what was not great, they'll end up with very good products and happy customers. Customer service is not all about taking care of customers problems with the products, it is just as much trying to learn how to make the products even better, and then doing it. I had problems with the SHV500 v1 case pin holes, and John replied this has already been fixed in V2, obviously they had fixed a weak point. Knowing this I had no doubts ordering a V2 even though V1 had failed. And the customer care took care of the problem with the failed servo. Very happy about that, can't wait to get both my bomber crawlers back on trails with Holmes servos.
