| reviving an older rig
I am bringing a clodbuster based super back to life i built back in 09 and it is running a single mamba max esc and I want to get an esc for the front axle. is there an esc you would recommend to run with the older mamba max or would it be better to replace that with a matched pair?

I guess you could get a used Mamba max and go dual, but if you're going for a crawler not a basher I personally would go with dual Castle micro ESCs. Preferably one of the Mamba Micros since they have heatsinks. The older Mamba Micro Pros are great. I have a few, and if you're patient they are cheap. For not much more $ you can get the new Mamba Micro x. It's better all around and has that Auxiliary function which has all kinds of uses. Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk |

i would just replace it. dual holmes hobbies BR-Mini's super small and amazing product. you can use the castle link on it too. you can get the dual BR-Mini too....built for MOA rigs. castle mamba x micros are great too. no matter what i would upgrade to a newer dual ESC set up. post some pics of it. |

I'm not going to lie I was a little disappointed trying to find a second one to mount on the front but I do realize it's an older ESC now. hell the Motors on it are vintage from the 80s a pair of speedworks Monster Mash If it makes a difference the weight doesn't matter as much to me as in the front wheels I have I think two and a half pounds of stick on weights inside and another pound in the Rears I'm also finally going to switch this one over from a nicad to lipo I have a question on the castle Link cable mine doesn't use the little 3-prong thing is there anything special about the cable itself I don't want to spend another $20 for a cable I have lying around the house because I can't find the original castle one. I still even have the original mini cd with the program Last edited by THX_138; 02-04-2018 at 11:32 PM. |

So since it’s been awhile since you have had this out, things have changed A LOT. I know the old way to run stuff was weighted in your wheels but we have learned that with all that weight you put a lot more stress on everything. Gears, servos, motors etc. I would suggest reading through some of the newer builds with clod axles and see what you find out. I know I used to load my wheels with BB’s. Lighter equals less stress, not saying that this is always the best way but it’s worth doing a little research. You have a lot of options out there. Just look around. GOOD LUCK!! |

The 3 pins go into the ESC's plug that would normally plug into the receiver. The brown or black wire on your servo is negative and must be in line with the -/negative/brown wire on the castle link. The other end is a standard Mini USB plug to standard USB into your PC. The mini USB was also used on cellphones years ago and PS3 controllers. You'll also want to download the newest castle link software from the website and update your castle link. Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk |

mine is the old style that just uses the micro plug and I tried my micro usb cable I would get the confirming beep from the laptop but no connection to the castle link. I did also download the most recent software. think out could be fried?

If it's brushed, why not dual wp1080's? You can adjust them to be more like go-fast ESC's rather than crawler-only. It can do 10T on 2S and 16T on 3S. My clod had dual 19T Speedgems and a Super Rooster and was fast, at least for it's time in the 90's. I'm strongly considering selling my Super Rooster to swap in dual wp1080's.

The wp1080 comes with an LED programmer box, which is easy to use. You look at the chart, click til the left number matches the feature, then click til the right number is the value you want. Programming endpoints is easy too.

Looks like I'm really going to have to look into it since I did confirm my belief and my ESC is dead which would explain why I couldn't get any connection
