Default Gearing question

I know this has been asked a thousand times and I have read multiple articles but I'm having a hard time figuring out what size pinion I should run. I have a 13t crawlmaster going in a gelande ii with 4.09" tires. The stock gearing is a 14t pinion 64t spur. I just don't want to burn anything up using the wrong gears. Thanks for any help and info.

Start with a small run and monitor motor temperature.
Then go up or down pinions

That’s probably a tad tall. I would go with an 11T pinion, possibly a 12T. You really want to be in the 5.2:1 to 6:1 sweet spot. As JH always says, volt UP, gear DOWN.

Ok, thanks guys. I will get a 11 and 12 and check the temps running those.

I am in 5.0:1 on my SCX10 II slow speed even in 3s. But the good news is my brushed motor NEVER got hot.
