Hobbywing 1080 Setting Chart by JBoucher I decided to evolve this thread into something more than just a few quick questions. I've created a simple Excel file to gather all the different settings by the users of this little gem of an ESC. Hopefully this can help new users to figure out what to do with it and also keep the questions all in one place. So here's the brand new Hobbywing 1080 Setting Chart by JBoucher ! https://drive.google.com/open?id=1gG...EOd95A4RCXEmpE If it grows into something too big, i may consider a version 2 where i can split Crawling / Trailing / Rockracing into sections. Feel free to keep sharing your settings in the thread, i will keep it updated. Please include the type of profile (Crawling, Trailing, Rock Racing) and some feedback as to why you choose those settings. |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings I'd be interested in other's settings as well, particularly #15: "freewheeling." I've read up on it, the cows came home, and I still don't understand. |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings I have a couple HW 1080s. One is in a more dedicated crawler that I use for rock crawling and trailing. The other vehicle is in a more rock racer type vehicle--faster, but still able to do some crawling. I set the lipo cutoff on high for both and still seem to get plenty of time before it cuts in. I set the initial start force to 2% on both and seem to have very good low speed control with this. I set max reverse force to 75% on each. Drag brake is at 100% on both. Drag brake rate I have at 4 on my crawler, but 2 on the rock racer so it slows down a little more progressively when it is going full speed. Haven't settled on punch yet, but think I set it at 7 for the crawler and 4 for the rock racer. PWM 16K on both. Freewheeling enabled on both. |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings Anyone else has settings to share? Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings Not sure about freewheeling on a crawler? Doesn't that adversely affect the drag brake? I'll check my settings this evening and post up. Been running on my SCX10 for about 6 months and works very well for crawling and trails. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk |

One thing I can say for sure is that the lipo cutoff setting "High" is awesome for me, because it cuts Pow Pow right at storage charge (awesome)!!! So, when I get home Sunday night after Crawling all day and going to dinner, one beer two beers, three beers four, cleaning gear, putting said gear away.... I don't have to charge or maintain batteries because, bing bang the esc already did that for me. "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""thumb sup" regarding freewheeling, just don't release the trigger abruptly, and learn throttle control. Every situation is different, play with the settings, play with the terrain, see what you can control, make adjustments and go from there. |

Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings Did a little research today and altered my settings to this, which suits my lighter crawler on 1.9s nicely so far: 3-1-4-2-4-3-7-1-8-2-4-4-4-1-1 Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings I left freewheeling on since I got the ESC and drag brake works flawlessly. LVC set to high, although I think I never got to LVC since I used 5Ah 3s packs until recently. 2 hours of trailing and I end up at 3.8ish V. |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings My settings: Truck: SCX10 Tires: 1.9s Weight: about 6# Motor: Hackmoto V2 45T Battery: NIMH Usage: 90% crawling / 10% trail #1 - 3 #2 - 2 #3 - 2 #4 - 3 #5 - 4 #6 - 3 #7 - 9 #8 - 1 #9 - 9 #10 - 4 #11 - 4 #12 - 5 #13 - 4 #14 - 1 #15 - 1 |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings Anyone else got any SCX10 II specific settings? My ESC seems very jerky, running a HH motor on 3s with a Castle BEC, my Bomber is super smooth, but no drag brake so don't want to copy that set up as it's set for speed, not crawling. |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings Reduce punch. |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings I made an Excel file with all the settings gathered so far but i can't find a way to upload it... Why are these forum UI so badly designed... |

Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings New Excel file is setup on my google drive. I also included the stock settings from Hobbywing as well as the description for each of them. I went through the old 1080 thread and pulled all the setting i could find so far. I will keep updating it as we get more settings posted by members. Thank you |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings Can't wait to see it, be sure to post up the link! |

I also tried to add the model name (rr10, Scx10, etc) when available. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings Sorry - Didn't see that you edited the first post... D'Oh! Very Cool............. |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings I commend you on your effort, but this is pointless. It's really not that hard to understand each setting and set it to your needs and the characteristics of your rig. |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 Setting Chart by JBoucher I agree but i like comparing things in life and it gives an idea of the most used settings. I'm an Excel geek... Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings Updated the file with my own settings for the Bomber RR10. I kept the Forward / Reverse mode and made the rest more rock racer friendly. Hopefully it dosen't front-flip too hard or destroy its gears on the test run... Don't be shy, share some more settings ! Don't forget to include the type of truck and the intended use. "thumbsup" |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings Really glad this thread got bumped since I'm about to power up my first 1080. Thanks, Jboucher!! "thumbsup" |

And you're gonna LOVE IT ! |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings OMG this ESC is the titz! I didn't realize the power button was backlit, that's the best part! Not really. But man, was this easy to set up, calibrate & program, thanks to my second favorite Canuck, of course "thumbsup" Glad I didn't read the instruction manual for the programming card too studiously...it wanted me to disconnect the RX wire and stick that into the card. Plugged the card cable into the header on the ESC, powered it up and it worked great w/o disconnecting the RX. Mated with this HH motor I think this new rig is gonna be schweet. Sucks, though...I may have to order nine more and swap out everything but the HH and Castle ESC's currently in service (light in the power switch does it). Here's my initial settings based on the 80% trail / 20% crawl I do and what I set my Castle ESC's to...and other's choices: 1 - 3 2 - 1 3 - 3 4 - 2 5 - 4 6 - 2 7 - 9 8 - 1 9 - 4 10 - 2 11 - 4 12 - 4 13 - 5 14 - 1 15 - 2 |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 Setting Chart by JBoucher Have to admit I was really impressed with how this ESC performed! Settings seem to be spot on for my tastes too. Need moar now. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings i would never tell somebody here they did something pointless. this place is all about helping out and making things easy for the next guy and so on... if you have been doing this for 50 years and you can program an ESC in your sleep, GREAT! but what about everyone else? everyone is a n00b at some point. this is excellent (see what i did there) and i will refer back when i get my 1080 soon. Thanks for compiling all of this! |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 Setting Chart by JBoucher Updated to include m2tech's settings. I will also change my own to 50% drag brake since it won't be a pure crawler. By the way if your body allows it, leave the program cable plugged in and available in the cockpit / under the body so you can make changes on the fly. Thx Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

This bent the pins on the ESC where the programming cable plugs into. For this reason I'd recommend against it. |

Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings So Does anyone have a setup for very good low speed control? Seeing as we dont have a throttle curve, what settings are yall using for the buttery molasses slow low speed control? |
Re: Hobbywing 1080 Setting Chart by JBoucher My settings are smooth as butter. Look at the Excel sheet, 2mtech also has similar settings. I recently reduced drag brake to 50% because i use it for more speed than crawling. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Hobbywing 1080 settings Ive copied Jboucher's settings and have been very pleased with this ESC. I upgraded from the stock axial AE-5l, and the 1080 makes that look like some sort of arduino hack job with the lack of smoothness and silence. |

Re: Hobbywing 1080 Setting Chart by JBoucher It's really a shame the hobbywing Bluetooth module dosen't work with the 1080. I would buy it for my Bomber since it's so damn annoying to get to the program port inside the cage... Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |
