is a 2 pole sensored motor ok for crawling?

Hi Guys,
Im looking at a cheap sensored set up for crawling, (its a personal challenge)

I have access to a new 1750kv 2 pole sensored motor for 20usd,

I believe the more poles the more torque and smoother operation?

but will this matter if its sensored?

keen to hear your thoughts!

I run 2 pole 17.5 motors and they do just fine for trail running.

2 pole will be fine. Gear it properly. 4 pole would be better. 4 pole would provide more torque, with all other things being equal.

Just watch the heat if you gear it high. A weaker motor will struggle more, and even 40A motors can cook themselves.

If your buying a motor for crawling specifically, why get a 2-pole motor that's just OK. Get a Puller pro that's 4-pole and awesome.

Motors are designed to preform certain ways. A race motor can be 2 pole or 6 pole and still be bad at crawling because it lacks a smoother startup. The Puller pro stubby and regular motors are designed to give good low end for crawling. There is more to it then pole count alone.

I have a couple of Tekin 4 pole sensored motors, several 42mm 4 pole sensored motors, and even a couple of 550 4 pole sensored motors. Just none spare or in the KV range I am after for a low (ish) cost project I have.

Problem is, the holmes motors are about $200 bucks delivered with tax to Australia, and im sure they are worth that, just too rich for what im working on.

I would get a castle slate motor, but the world seems sold out.

Essentially I am looking to get something that is nice and smooth around 2500kv and under $100aud.

If you know if anything please let me know.

Why does it need to be brushless, I love my 550 brushed $20 motors.

After any recommendation on a 2pole sensored brushless motor, that is nice and smooth,

I understand there are many other motor options out there that, but for this, I am after 2pole sensored brushless. Around 2500kv - 2700kv

Two poles can work. Race stators and 12.5mm rotors get by, race stators with 14mm rotors are the typical "rock tuned" faire that have terrible startup and run hot. I don't know why that was the direction the market went, besides those companies having zero experience on the rocks.


Of course, Holmes to the rescue with the TrailMaster Pro. A unique stator and rotor, it has very smooth startup and runs cool. In the world of two pole motors, I've yet to find another that works as well. Customers frequently tell us that it drives like a 4 pole.

Amain has $1.99 shipping on lots of smaller things. The cutoff seems to be things that are bigger than a pair of packaged 4.75 tires.

Is that a new policy? Whenever I ordered from AMain's site the shipping was way more than that. That's why I started ordering from their eBay store which was always cheaper for some odd reason.
