Throttle works upside down, but not rightsize up?

Hey everybody,

Not as versed in the RC world as I once was, but having some odd behavior from a relatively new Axial Wraith RTR Poison Spyder with Tactic controller. I've only used it a few times, but have been using it to run my dog into exhaustion by driving end to end of a neighborhood field while he chases it.

It started acting weird after a few rollovers -- losing throttle signal. Then it would only go if I was holding down the throttle and pushed it with my foot.

Now throttle only works if it's upside down. Even if wheels are turning while I hold it upside down, they'll stop as I rotate it back to upright.

Steering works fine.

I can see ESC turn green when I press throttle, red when pressing reverse.

2C, 5000 lipo batteries -- tried two different ones and same thing.

Any ideas?

Yes, many times.

I think I may have intermittent connection of some sort. I took out the screw holding the ESC from underneath, and moving it around just a few cm got signal to come back and everything to work fine again. Then when I screwed it back in, no signal again. I've been wiggling all the wires around and everything seems to be working again now. Weird

Swap the servo & ESC connectors & recalibrate the ESC. Aside from trigger moving wheels and wheel doing throttle, does it act the same?

It could also be a hung or broken brush spring in the motor. Can you try a different motor?

Since the ESC can "hear" the receiver, my guess is that trouble is in the ESC to motor area - bad connection somewhere or filthy brushes/broken springs.
I had solder joints fail under the heatshrink a couple of times, looks fine, doesn't work, drove me crazy.
Check everything from ESC to motor, don't be afraid to pull on the wires like you mean it

bad battery connection if the rig has to reboot every time. bad ESC RX wire if it comes right back on or glitches. Bad motor connection if the ESC stays on and doesn't glitch out.

Always start with the simple thing then move to the more complicated.

Dudes.
He said in the first post that the green/red leds light up on throttle/brake.

That means ESC -> motor problem.

I was going nuts trying to figure out why my transmitter and receiver weren't talking until I realized I had the ESC and the steering servo plugged in backwards. What made it confusing was that the receiver was still getting power despite the polarity being reversed, so it looked like it should have been working.

In short... Never overlook the obvious.

Thanks for all the inputs guys. I think I may have a bad connection to the motor. Under one of the heat shrinks is turning brown, like it's burning. The other is not

Yep, that's probably the bad connection.
