Hire 7980 servo mount

Does anyone make a servo mount that will work for a 7980 on a rr10 bomber? Can't seem to find any information. Don't want to fab one unless can't find a supplier

Thanks for any info

What's so special about that servo that requires a special mount?

They're a little bigger than most servos. It's the price you pay for the most torque you can get in a 1/10 servo. "thumbsup"

Nope. It's been a couple years since that was true. There are faster, stronger and cheaper on the market these days that don't have to rely on their warranty to last.

That said the stock mounting plate from a wraith is slotted to allow the 7980 to fit.

And how many of them are not over-rated savox POSs?

How many savox 2290s have you used? Lemme guess, none.

Savox makes a whole pile of junk servos but the 2290 and 1283 are both top notch.

I have 2 dlux bergs sitting here that are as identical as it gets the only difference is the servo. One has a 2290 the other has a 7980. Side by side comparison has already been done. "thumbsup"

I have a handful of servos arriving next week to do a full boogie torque test and I bought a bomber that's showing up this week to put a beat down on them after the strength test is done.

How many are not savox.

Reefs 555
3 brothers G13
Hitech 7980
Bluebird h50b
Holmes hv500
Savox 2290

Is that a good enough cross section of the popular servos for you? I've personally ran all but the reefs and 3 brothers extensively so I have an idea of how things will go but data is data and it doesn't lie so we shall see what comes of it.

Hitech 7980 what I run
Bluebird h50b BB are not exactly know for being long lasting and the last one I bought was a knockoff with a brushed motor...
Holmes hv500 Only 500oz
Savox 2290 Won't use.

So no decent 600oz+ servos besides the hitec yet.

Re: Hire 7980 servo mount

3 brothers will actually be ran on 4s directly as they're designed.

I don't care that you don't like the 2290 so whatever.

I've used them all and I know what is faster and stronger. You got burned by the garbage 1230/1231 1270/1271 in the past. I get it, I did to but I figured I'd roll the dice and I'm very glad that I did.

Re: Hire 7980 servo mount

I've never had a savox servo die, because I've never ran them. Even when I was racing, 9/10 when someone had servo issues it was a savox.
I refuse to buy them.

So the 3 brothers has the same torque, but requires twice the voltage to get there....

Re: Hire 7980 servo mount

The 2290 has more torque and is faster at the same voltage. Full aluminum case and steel gears too. Unlike my dearly departed 7980 my first 2290 (almost 2 years of abuse so far) has not let me down.

Input voltage really isn't a big deal. If someone runs 4s then why not run a servo that uses the same voltage? It will be an interesting test.

If you need 600lbs of torque youre doing it wrong IMO.

We are talking ounces not pounds but I get what you're saying. And I whole heartedly disagree with your statement.

A scale nerd rig with tiny tires doesn't need big power. Your slash or 2wd race buggy doesn't need big power either. A sportsman or pro rig absolutely benefit from over 600 oz of torque. It is common for super class to run a geared down 7980 to get 1200 oz to turn their 8" tall tires.

Not a sarcastic comment: I hope at some point I see a situation where that much torque is useful on a 1.9 or 2.2 rig. I'm not being a smart ass, I'm serious. I think I'm missing out on a whole different aspect of crawling because I haven't encountered a situation yet where my Promodeler hasn't been enough servo on my Bomber. My Gen7 has a 959v2 running off the stock ESC and hasn't let me down yet.

A bomber isn't a comp rig. For bashing about a pile of power isn't needed and something like a promodler (great servo, had a V4 for over a year and really liked it) is perfect. Good speed, decent power and great overall strength from a full aluminum case and steel gears are very good qualities for that application.

In the comp world all that and more power are key. It is very common to turn full lock and grab a ledge then turn the wheels so the whole rig is lifted by a front tire. A week servo won't do that.

I guess I just haven't encountered that kind of obstacle where I crawl.

On one hand I get it; competition calls for much more extreme power. But on the other hand, Ive seen X-Maxx's, and other 1/5th scales bashing around on less than 300oz/in just fine, and my 500oz/in HH servo is just fine for my 1.9 scx10.2 rig. Im not quite sure what the benefit would be from turning the whole rig off of one tire, but the high end competition rigs dont make much sense to me either. They seem to more fly across the rocks than crawl on them hehe. Either way I was just being snarky, I bet there is some pro out there that still wins with much lower torque servos.

Turning tires while the rig is moving is easy. My e maxx drove just fine with 250 oz servo but the tires would barely wiggle while stopped.

I run a bit over half a pound of knuckle weight per front corner on my pro & sportsman. Couple that with 140* sweep lock to lock steering and it begins to paint a very different picture than you're used to. I can fly across the rocks if needed but I always try crawling them first. I run a lot of motor on 4s so she bumps & jumps very well.

Re: Hire 7980 servo mount

I think it's funny when I started my first build i had over 4lbs of weight in the wheels(1.5lbs each front) and now .5lb is heavy. i have removed it since and my buzzy as hell servo seems way happier.
