Default 15C battery in SCX10?

Today while I was out crawling, I started second guessing myself. A few months ago I scored a great deal on some 2S 5000mah 15C batteries.

My scx10 has a brushed 35 turn motor and a Hobbywing 1060 esc.

Am I starving my system?

Just a bit...

...and here I thought 20C was scraping the bottom of the barrel.

It really depends on how you are geared, if you are very conservative you should be fine. But if you are geared taller than you are taxing your battery and limiting your power. Does your battery ever get hot?

That's getting pretty low, but I wouldn't sweat that. Remember, C rating is multiplied by ah capacity, so your batteries should theoretically give 75a of constant discharge, not factoring any sort of higher "burst" rating. I don't think any 540 (or 550) sized brushed motor ever pulls anywhere near that, at least not with that high of a turn count. I run 2200mah 30c batteries (though mine are 3s, but 66a constant, maybe wattage would be the better rating to go by?) with zero surging, browning out, or otherwise. I generally shoot for a minimum of 60a for my brushed cars, which would be only 12c for a 5000mah pack. Unless you notice it surging when you nail the throttle, I wouldn't bother buying new batteries.

How long does it last ? Does any thing happen? Glitch or brownout when steering ?
Is it swelling on discharge ?
It will tell you. I prefer 50 to 90c, but those are 4300 mah 3s

The lowest C battery I have is a 50C Gens Ace and the rest are SMC batts that say they put out 205amps. The key thing to remember with batteries is they only put out the current that the hardware is drawing from them. So if you have a 40A ESC(the 1060 I think) you would really want a 40C battery. BUT heres the catch; there is no enforced standard for C rating. What I like about SMC is they put out actual current numbers instead of an obfuscated rating. I run a 1080, a 3racing winch, and a HH 500oz/in servo off of the 50C battery and everything runs fine. I only paid 20$ for the 3300mah GA batt so hard to not recommend a higher C rate.

I suspect that those batteries are fine. A 15C 5000mah should be able to put out the same current as a 2500 30C, which is likely a pretty popular battery size for these vehicles. A brushed 540 motor, geared way down like it is in an SCX10 draws a crapload less current than people likely realize.

A brushless Slash 4x4 needs a 5000mah 50c battery. A brushed SCX10 doesn't.

People tend to get hung up on the C rating number and forget to consider capacity. Because C rating is a function of capacity, you're fine with those batteries in a crawler.

A 15C 5000mAh battery can sustain an output of 75Amps, 150Amps on burst. My trail trucks typically average less than 3Amps draw.

PSA : C rating X mAh rating = Amp rating. Not all manufacturers are honest.

I get high C ratings. You can't ever go wrong with high C-ratings other than wasting a few dollars. But I use my crawler batteries in bashers as well. 15C is low. You'll probably be fine with a crawler, but watch for puffing.

Yeah definitely do not use it in something like a Slash or monster truck, that would not go well hehe.
