| Is the 1080 the best BRUSHED esc ?
What others could you compare it too , maybe the tekin , or is the tekin way better than the 1080 ? Some guy on FB said that the castle and tekin are the best/better than the HW . I know nothing about the tekin nor the castle so i wouldn't know what to say about those esc's. So, is there a better esc than the 1080 ? |

big difference of better vs best bang for the buck... best bang for the buck I say the HW1080wp has it hands down. Best overall, I think you can get a better ESC, but at two or three times the price. |

^^^^ what he said but imo between the brushed escs ive used (ax-2/ax-5/sidewinder 3/cheaper hobbywings) the br-xl is "the best" but you need a bec so with that less then 30$ more gets you a mamba x that is equally as good for brushed motors and the current favorite for brushless as well. My second favorite was the sidewinder 3 more tunable the 1080 (for me atleast) but it also gets salty when you add a bec. The 1080 is not the best ESC out there, but it absolutely the best for the price. At $40, the 1080 is a bargain. They are small, lightweight, programmable, reliable, and waterproof. I run 3 of them. My class 1 and class 2 comp rigs run them, as does my trail TRX-4. The Mamba X is probably top dog overall right now, but it costs almost as much as 4 1080s. That extra cost is not worth it for every situation. |

So how much of a difference is the HW compared to the others ? Example, the tekin, what's the difference, more changes on the tekin than the HW ?

The higher end ESCs tend to have a few more tuning options. A big one is the ability to do custom throttle curves if you hook it up to a computer. The Mamba X can also run brushless motors and has a much more powerful BEC. Same for the Tekin RX4. Holmes ESCs have other options as well, such as silent mode and Holmes Hold. If you think you'll upgrade to brushless at some point or you like to run high power servos and just absolutely do not want to run an external BEC, the X would be my choice. I prefer it over my RX4. The only complaint that I have on my 1080s is that the drag brake does not seem as strong as some of my other ESCs. |

I like the esc side throttle curve, if you don't care about that feature. Then the 1080 has pretty much every brushed feature and more of the pricier ones.

i used to run 2 1080 rigs but just upgraded one to the new AXE540. for the price the 1080 is really a great esc to use, i had the 1060 before but upgrade to the 1080 as soon as it was restocked at my lhs. I think the best combo for this is to use a 1080 with a holmes hobby brushed motor... i have not tried it yet but have seen the way other drivers use it, it moves so different from my cheap YR or Teamraffee motor i use. |

I have a 1080 on my gmade R1 (brushed) which is set up for crawling and a pair of mamba micro x on my Bully (brushless). The mambas are way better than the 1080 which is still a nice esc. The mamba is more programmable too if you have a castle link. Holmes Hobbies make some really great stuff.

He has asked what makes the 1080 better than the Tekin. Two words, Instant Reverse. Tekin doesnt have this. Their reverse setup is dumb imo. All around the 1080 is the best brushed esc out for under $50. |

| Re: Is the 1080 the best BRUSHED esc ? Actually, we do have instant reverse. And forward only and a reverse delay. It's all programmable right on the ESC with no external programming device too. |

| Re: Is the 1080 the best BRUSHED esc ? From the numerous ones locally I have seen run they all have this strange delay before going into reverse. Now if this can be changed and they just dont know how then i retract my statement. But man at the aggravation they all have while crawling. |

| Re: Is the 1080 the best BRUSHED esc ? It takes about 10 seconds to change it using the buttons and LEDs on the FXR and you can change other settings such as Drag Brake, Reverse Speed, Current Limit and Voltage Cutoff. It's extremely easy to do.

The SW4 for 3s is something to think about You can run brushed and brushless nonsensored.

I've been running the 880s in a lot of rigs lately, lower bec voltage, but 4s capable. Still run 1080s when I don't need 4s or don't have the extra space.

I like the 1080. I have quite a few with HH trail and crawl master sport motors. I also have plenty of Castle esc's. Like everybody stated the 1080 is the best in that price range. I want to try the Tekin esc's for crawlers. I have Tekin in a few race vehicles. I love the onboard programing but I also have the hotwire 3.0 for more tuning. |
