| Help! HH revolver and trx4 sport
I'm trying to mount up the Holmes hobbies revolver 1800kv motor into a trx4 sport. How in the heck do you set the mesh? There's got to be a way to check it prior to putting the cover on! Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |

I check that there is some play between the gears. Then hit the throttle and listen to the sound. Are you saying the motor can't be ran without the cover on in the trx4? |

I don't have a Sport, does it use the same motor mount as the rest of the TRX4 line?

There are aftermarket options out there that allow you to mount the motor and have a separate spur gear cover. I would have to do some looking to find them again though.

Yes, the cover locks in the motor mount! I took a wild guess, once I get it soldered up tomorrow I'll see how it sounds. The design of the motor mount/gear cover kinda sucks! I'll download the manual as well, maybe something in there will shed some light. Hopefully it won't strip immediately tomorrow. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |

In a nutshell, there are several holes that correspond with what size pinion you are running. Check your pinion size, bolt it to the correct holes, and done.

keep in mind the shaft on this motor is longer than normal, and you'll likely need to trim off a bit to get it to fit under the cover. I cut mine down to fit it in the TRX4. Some people have cut a slot in the cover but I think I'd prefer to keep the dirt out.

I'm smiling because I am one to always recommend checking the manual! Where I got hung up is control issues, I can't verify the mesh is set correctly! I did not change pinion size, so I put it back in the stock holes. After completing this, I manually pushed the truck across the floor. The tires stayed locked up unless I applied pressure downwards, then it would spin. Granted I'm new to the crawler scene but I am not new to hobby rc, coming from a bashers perspective this was not good and most likely the result of a mesh that is too tight! Low and behold, my paranoia got the better of me and I raised the motor a notch. Well after driving it, it's too loose. I'll open her back up and return it to the stock set up. Thank you all for the help, I doubted myself and now I have to redo it but it's good to know there is help out there when needed. Also, as a side note, while the motor shaft was long, it still tucked behind the cover. No trimming was necessary, even if I was unsure at first. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |

Yeah, pushing a TRX4 across the floor is not a test of anything.

Side note, when pushing a rig with this motor it has so much drag that it wont want to move easily, I found the trick is to help out by giving the outrunner a spin while pushing the truck to get it going. But yeah not a good test of the mesh. What I've done to look at the mesh is to place the motor plate in its spot without the cover, eyeball it so it sits at 90*. that gives you a very rough idea of the mesh. |

What he said. The Revolver has nutty drag brake, and is hard to turn over at first.
