This controller looks pretty good, and higher quality than their other controllers.

This might be perfect for HumboldtEF with his funky driving style. ;-)

I wasn't thrilled that the battery is the base...could be ok. Would have been interesting for my southpaw GF but she's adapted to a standard tx now.

Not terribly priced around two bills.

I want one based on a Glock 19 frame now! "thumbsup"

Cool, but I agree that it doesn't look durable.

Seeing as how it took a long, long time (years I believe) from the time the GT-5 was announced to the time it was released I'd say this transmitter will be released around 2020.

I thought it a little shortsighted it doesn't appear to have any position locking feature on the wheel swivel. Bet that'd get annoying.

I'm generally very careful with my stuff, so the battery mounting is the only one I'd actually be concerned with personally. I see the wheel swivel as set & forget. There's really no reason to swivel once you've got it set to your preference.

EDIT: I haven't watched the whole video yet, so my opinions may change.

Ok, just watched the video. Here's my thoughts.

- Yeah it sucks that there's no mechanical lock on the swivel, but there seems to be enough friction resistance to prevent it from flopping around. There might be notches at the end of each swivel that does a friction lock, but we can't tell in the video. Whether it gets worse with time, who knows. I'd be one to just set and forget it to the side I use.

- I don't like the way (method) the battery attaches/detaches, BUT.... I do like the fact that the whole base is a battery pack. This opens up a lot of potential for different sized battery pack/base, and just hot swapping them. Hot swapping??? see next thought.

- Pretty cool that the TX unit itself holds a charge as well as the battery/base. Does this mean that you can hot swap a battery while the TX stays on? Hmmmmm....

- I hope you can turn off those indicator lights full time on the battery and the back of the TX. Not a fan of too many lights shining. They mentioned you could change the color, but I'd want it off full time.

- The TX interface is cool. It looks like they'd be able to easily provide software updates to improve on functionality should they commit to doing so, as it now acts more like a mobile OS app.


Overall, I think I'd give it a shot. I'm not very rough on my stuff at all, so if that battery mounting mechanism holds up... I'd try it out.

Maybe this was created with on-road cars in mind, where people aren't strolling along with their cars over challenging terrain.

It's just too complicated and fragile for too little benefit. Out of the 10% of lefties out there, 90% of us are doing just fine with a normal radio.

I wonder how long the internal battery last Vs with the 4300 MAH "power bank".
I assume it hold a single 18650 battery in the grip,,,,, and those go as large as 3- 4000 MAH.
Not too worried about it being able to last as i have never dropped a TX and i dont plan to start doing that.

Agreed.

Lefties are a very little percentage and for that reason alone the swiveling steering wheel doesn't make sense IMO. It does allow for some adjustability for better ergonomics, but I've never felt the need for that.

The rest of the radio is pretty cool though. But the built-in battery presents another problem. When that dies do you have to disassemble radio to remove/replace it? And will the radio work when that battery is at the end of its life? I'm assuming yes, but it's something to consider.

I think you can run it on the internal battery just fine, when that then go flat you can snap on the power bank battery on the bottom of the grip and charge the internal battery and run the transmitter meanwhile.
So for that reason i also think you can run it without the battery in the transmitter, just like you can run some action cameras in dashcam mode without its battery inserted.

But i would assume it have a 18650 or maybe 18350 battery inside, so making a swap while maybe not drop in then it cant be all that bad, but yes i think you have to open up the transmitter.
But with a good IMR or INR battery in the radio grip i cant see that should go sour anytime soon, so i dont see that as i issue one should worry about.

I wish we could get a power bank adapter for the bottom of the grip, along with a blank to button up that connection when / if you dont use it.
And i just made a +20,000 mah power bank that i dont really have much use for.
If the internal battery have a OK run time then i wouldn't really have that "big ass" power bank snapped on it too, as that must neigh to double the weight of the thing.
so the 4300 mah will probably just go in the back pack along with the spares and tools.

My power bank are hefty with 10 X 18650 IMR batteries in it.

EDIT:

Just been looking at manual PDF at flysky, and it say the bottom snap on is " detachable battery " but then there also appear to be a "second battery" in the grip.
But no size are mentioned foe either battery in PDFs i could find there.
it do say you can not charge the transmitter, and a second thing at the same time off the bottom power bank.

I love this thing...

I read FlySky's response to the video - They are updating the number of channels to 18 next year, and coming out with a new smaller receiver option in a couple months!

Battery life - 4 hours on the handle, 10 hours on the base...

And you can charge your phone off the base's USB port.

The receiver it comes with has such a nifty feature, the way the wires all plug in sideways instead of straight down, should make for a lower-profile electronics install.

Anyone want a good deal on a custom modded with a carbon fiber handle/lanyard attachment Futaba 3PV? Never even been powered up?

(just kidding...)
