Default Sense Innovations ESS+Dual

New to the forum, and fairly new to crawling.

Running a Traxxas TRX 4 Bronco.

Put an ESS + Dual in it. Love the sound box.

But it isn't waterproof. Has anyone done anything to waterproof this sound box?

I have 2 coming right now from ebay, glad you like it,.

Ive seen a video of it take apart, so i was thinking coating the board with conformal coating, maybe a desiccant pack in there too?

Then liquid electrical tape around screw holes, and along the case opening.

But have no idea about the speaker, or if its possible?

Edit: I just remembered spray paint can eat Styrofoam so maybe you cant use nano coating on the speakers, could eat the foam.
so no idea.

Nano coating spray paint on the speakers, its thin, and I've seen it on clothing, so it flexes, no idea how long it would last.
Don't know if conformal coating would be to thick and heavy or whether it flexes when its dry, but I think it would muffle the sound.

Anybody know if replacement speakers could be ordered from them? Then you could experiment a little with it.

No but apparently googling "waterproofing a speaker" has lots of ideas.

I will have to get mine in my hands and see exactly what all of the speaker parts are made from.

Thanx for the responses guys. I haven't pulled mine apart yet to see what all could or couldnt be done. Was hoping someone had already. I don't mind pioneering it, just didn't see the point in reinventing the wheel.

Ok, this is going to sound kinda funny, but try wrapping the speaker in a condom. Zip tie the end where the wires exit and use a little silicone around that end as well. It will be nearly 100% waterproof, and should allow for plenty of sound from the speaker. Back in the day, Tamiya often provided "black balloons" with their kits for this very purpose. It sounds a bit low tech, but it works quite well. Not to mention, it's cheap and easy!

If you do that go for unlubricated condoms. But I think it will get holes easily.
