Default Castle bec

Hello all sorry for the dumb question. I went to order a bec for my rig last night from Holmes hobbies and I seen that the offer them in different voltages. I'm running 2 power hd 20kg servos for my 4ws. I want them to run on separate channels. Will a normal bec work or do I need one of the Holmes upgrade ones. Thank you

They are adjustable with a castle link and PC, HH is just offering to adjust the voltage for you at a small fee. Great deal if you don not have a castle link.

Any BEC will work. For those servos you want one that is set to 6.6Volts (or less). Either the Holmes or the Castle BEC would do nicely, my favourite is Hey OK though, he's also a vendor on this site.

Buy one from Holmes that's pre-set or buy a castle link to be able to program and adjust the Holmes or Castle bec. The HeyOK ones are adjustable without additional software.

Or better yet throw the castle BEC away, since it is going to blow, then supply your servos with over voltage and blow them.

That BEC is a serious POS.

Get a HEYok.

Thanks for the mention!

No Brainer BEC

Or a dual channel version:

In a 2 servo situation wouldn't each servo be "splitting" the power?
I have had good luck with the Castle BEC but this no brainer BEC looks like it's the best thing since sliced bread!

Yes. Not sure I understand your question though.

I know the voltage would be the same to each servo let's say 7.4 each but wouldn't the amps be split between the 2 ?

So if it's 10amps maximum output from the single BEC to 2 servos it would only be 5 amps each? BUT if you got 2 of your BEC each servo would get the full 10 amps?

Also are the waterproof? ( adjustable one) or can you spray a little corrosion x in there once and a while ?

Thanks for info!
Also super cool that you're Canadian

Thanks for the explanation.
Since you seem to have an interest, maybe read up on Ohm's law as it will help your understanding of what current goes where and when.
To put it in easy terms and continue your analogy, the two servos will each get the same voltage as their power connections are in parallel.
The BEC may be able to output 10 amps, but how much gets to each servo depends on the load that each servo presents. If one servo is
lightly and the other is heavily loaded (maybe steering up against a rock) the first will draw a small amount of current and the second will draw
a larger amount.

The No Brainer isn't supplied as a waterproof part. The reason is that in order to adjust its output, you need to poke a hole in the heat shrink
over the end of the potentiometer so you can turn it with a screwdriver. I figured that if I plugged up the holes before I shipped it out and claimed
that it was waterproof and someone adjusted it, water could get in. My suggestion is to just squirt some silicone in the ends of the heat shrink to
help keep the water out.

Thanks for answer! I should have mentioned I was thinking of a Summit more than the MOA with 2 servo idea.

Makes sense about WP...customers ALWAYS do the strangest things.

Looking forward to digging through your post with all your latest offerings.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! ( never figured out why it's a different day than the American one.... But Turkey feast 2x is ALWAYS GOOD!)

Have you considered designing a 3d printed waterproof box for it? Someone might come up with something clever that can be put on shapeways.

Not me :-)
If someone wants to do that, please feel free to do so.
