this is a good idea. I have some room to move my mounting on the horn closer in.

Great idea John. I definitely need to save up to buy the 630 I’m sick and tired of putting servos in my bomber.

I'm using John's servo arm on both of my rigs that use 470 servos; my Bomber and my Yeti. Like a typical crawler meathead, I eliminated the "fuse" by drilling & tapping the arm for an M3 screw, mainly because I didn't want to have to sleeve an M2 screw for it to fit securely in the steering link end. So far, so good.

Fuse? No thanks, I want it all and I don't want to settle.

I moved my trusted 420 V4 to my bomber the other day and after s beat down it's still kicking it.

Anybody get their hands on one of these 630's yet? I know someone has to have bought one by now. Let's hear about it.

FYI, the correct specs for this servo are now listed on promodeler's site. ProModeler - 630oz-in, Std, BLS #DS630BLHV

Not as much torque as a Savox 2290sg, but faster and much less current draw.

Just ordered the 630. I have an SCX10II and wondering about how to power it? I see that it's recommended to run a separate 2s battery. How do i set this up to work on my crawler?
What options do i have to get this working? Would it work on a stock scx10ii if i just swapped out the original servo?
Do i need a new ESC, a new BEC? Will i need to run it on its own battery, and if so, how do i get it to work with my receiver?

Thanks in advance for the help!

If you wanted to run a separate 2s battery you would use an rx bypass adapter, similar to the one sold by holmes hobbies. Basically what it does is allow you to power your servo with a separate battery or bec and still get signal from your receiver, which is still powered by your ESC's BEC. If you run a 3s battery you could attach a BEC to it, and run your servo off that, which is what most people do, as it is far more weight efficient than an extra battery.

I agree except I wouldn't say an external BEC is "far more weight efficient than an extra battery." It depends on your setup.

I have been using a 2s 260mah battery to power my promodeler 420v4. It weighs 3g more than a CC BEC 1.0. It has enough mah that I almost always discharge my main battery (3s 1000mah) before I discharge my steering battery.

With a new setup I am working on, I will be using a 2s 400mah lipo to power a savox 2290sg. It actually weighs 6g less than the cc BEC 2.0 WP that would be necessary to power this servo well (the CC BEC 1.0 doesn't provide the amp draw this servo would like).

The caveat is that you will need larger steering batteries to last as long as your drive battery if you use a large drive battery. Steering batteries also drain faster in harder core rock crawling if that is what you primarily do.
