Traxxas 400 high torque servo for TRX4

Hey everyone I’m new here just got back into rc after a ten year break and I just got the TRX4 Bronco and was wondering about the Traxxas 400 high torque steering servo upgrade and BEC. Looking for reviews if any, I like the idea of using Traxxas parts for a seamless integration.

Servos are 100% compatible. No matter what brand of servo you use with the Traxxas ESC you are going to need a BEC. For the price that Traxxas is asking for that servo checkout the ProModeler which is talked about elsewhere on this site at length.

ProModeler - 470oz-in, Std, BLS #DS470BLHV

Thanks for that link I didn’t realize I came off looking so green but I do have a basic knowledge regarding the service compatibility it was more about the BEC that I’m familiar with. But I gotta say that servo is a beautiful piece of engineering and I’m going to order one this afternoon just to avoid those TRX4 servo problems I keep reading about

I know you said Traxxas but for seamless integration you may also consider looking at the HH SHV500 v2 for direct drop-in ( no need for external BEC). 450 oz @ 11.1v and under $120.

I installed the Traxxas 400 servo along with their BEC and metal steering horn. I use my Defender daily on rocks and mud. The system has performed flawlessly for months. Its fast turning and dead silent. The BEC wiring is all plug and play and hidden inside the new receiver box. I am new to RC so dependability, simplicity was paramount , over cost. I am very pleased with its performance and durability.

The 2262 BEC is simply a band-aid fix, sold by Traxxas, to compensate for the weak TRX4 1 amp XL-5 ESC in order to allow it to be used with the over priced 400 oz/in 2255 high torque servo at 6v. Once installed you have a marginal BEC, supporting a marginal ESC, in order to drive a marginal over priced servo. For virtually the same price of the band-aid 2262 BEC, you can buy the HW1080 ESC. The HW1080 will drive a very high quality, high torque servo, like a Pro Modeler 470, at 6v without the need for any BEC all for about $50 less total. If you still feel the need for a BEC, you can install a 10amp Castle Creations BEC for $20 still leaving you $30 ahead. The HW1080 ESC/CC 10A BEC/PM 470 servo, is a vast performance improvement over the Traxxas XL-5/2262/2255. Don't waste your money on the 2262 BEC or 2255 servo!

To compare costs:
2262 BEC $39.99
2255 servo $149.99

HW1080 ESC $42
ProModler DS470BLHV $99
CC 10A BEC $20

The Traxxas 2262 has been discussed previously in several threads. Here is one.

Agree 100% I'm running the 1080 with DS3218 servo and it works great and I've got $60 in that setup and it's waaaaaaaay better than stock. Traxxas makes great rigs, electronics not so much.
