I have had 2 of these now, both have went out in under 4 hours of use each. voltage set at 7.4v, endpoints set correctly. 1st one replaced by promodeler, just contacted about this one. anyone ever have this luck with a servo in a trail rig?. servo just whines turning one way unless truck is moving turns other way fine. never bashed or abused, just trail runs

Odd. I had one fail, John tested it, I saw the video , never worked for me, was locked. Replaced under warranty. John said it works best on 2s direct, vs a bec @8.4v as I do. I am running 2 of them now@8.4 on my bec flawless and smooth. Hang up and Drive | |

I am awaiting a reply from them, hopefully, they will take care of it. the bad part is this is the one they sent as replacement. Hope they can figure out what is wrong.BTW I am running as it in a rr10 bomber modified to be a trail truck/crawler not a basher. castle slate 2850 and mamba x if that matters. Thanks for reply

That's weird. Any chance your bec is fluky? I have 5 of the 470s. They've all been flawless. I once thought I finally managed to kill one as it got weak and twitched a bit in the straight ahead position. Turns out the Castle bec was at fault, which I realized after I swapped out the servo and the symptoms continued. So, the old 470 went back in with a new bec. |

Egh, this isn't good news. I've got 2 of the 1st Generation 420 promodeler's and they have been absolute f'n tough as nails, although they lack a little in the return to center strength department...... I am hard on them and they are both over 1 year old and zero issues. Very solid servos. Guess I'll have to do some more research on servo choices now that I think there are other options on the market.

Sorry for questioning what may be obvious, but have you verified that your steering works smoothly with the servo disconnected? I find it odd that 2 servos exhibited the same faulty behavior. I have a 470 on my Bomber running at 8.0V directly from my Mamba X and it's been flawless.

Sorry to hear about your luck with these fantastic servos. So far so good with my V.5. I chose to run it off Castles internal BEC in my Mamba X set at 8.0v. It has really been an awesome servo. I was tired of buying cheap servos claiming to have tons of torque but than fail after 5 runs. This 470 with steel gears and brushless motor for $99 ended my frustration. I’m sure Mr. John Beech will take care of your issue. Good luck.

Keep us updated. I'd like to hear what they determine since I have this servo on my radar. I agree with your comment about Hitec's crappy customer service. |

I've got two of these sitting in a box waiting to be used, I hope they work for me! I can say for sure though that the owner is very responsive and seems like a great guy, so that's important.

There really are SO many of these being used with no issues that I would still highly recommend them. I've seen people post that they have 5 of them in various rigs - some even being the older slightly weaker 420oz-in versions. |

Mine will be going in scale trucks anyways so they're already twice as good as they need to be, shouldn't be working very hard at all.

since you already checked the mechanical aspects of your rig. You said that you're running the servo from a dedicated battery, but you also said 7.4v. Are you running directly from 2S or are you using a BEC set to 7.4v? If you're using a BEC, get rid of it and run direct from 2S. If that's what you're already doing, I'd re-check that your wiring is OK and that you don't have something that's causing a high resistance connection.

I've had my Promodeler ds470 for almost a year, had it sent out a few months ago because Im hard on equipment and did not keep it lubed properly. Since then ive been alot easier on it and been avoiding mud ( so hard to control myself, ni love playimg in mud). John mentioned posting a link up for us crawler guys with the ds470 for instructions on proper lubing. Just curious if anyone has come across the link or has any experience lubing the 470. Im so hesitant to open it up without some background kbowledge, would prefer to not void the warranty if i can avoid it. The last time i had it serviced my bearings were shot and he replaced a few gears just to be safe. Thanks in advanced. |
