I really don't care that much, either way.

It would be fun to occasionally drive in a downpour but realistically I head home when it rains.

And I don't take my rigs in water, mostly because I hate cleaning them up - unless it's just blasting them with air... and the water hazards around here are seriously germ-ridden.

However, I am jonesing for a TRX-4 Defender, and it may be the one rig of mine that gets muddy - and I suppose I will try to do something about protecting a radio tx (and rx if needed) from water eventually.

I'd somewhat rather another company put out a waterproof radio, though - not really sure why, but I've never been into Spektrum as a brand.

I REALLY want the similar concept applied to the new FlySky Nomadio.

The trx4 is waterproof stock. Mine may or may not have gotten the electronics fully submerged while in a downpour last weekend. Ain't no problems with that stock junk.

Uhhh.....

Yeah, I'm aware...

I'm talking about the transmitter!

Heck, my Ascender is also waterproof... although not as much now that I've swapped in a FlySky rx - but it's mounted very high up front just under the hood...

The transmitter was in my hands in the downpour I mentioned. It didn't seem to care. Shook it off when I was done and carried on my day.

OK, so that happened...on that occasion, to some guy on the internet that I'm talking to...

It's not designed for that, and I'd rather take some steps towards providing actual waterproofing than just cross my fingers and hope my shit don't fry...

Sure, my take is the traxxas radio is cheap to replace so I'll beat on it till it dies. With no screen the board would be simple to conformal coat if I cared.

Sounds like the new spektrum radio with a receiver box is in order.

You can take the transmitter appart, conformal coat the electronics and add silicone to the seams when you put it back together. I'm sure that will be rain proof enough.

If you want something that can be fully submerged then get a string.

Looked at buying this as an upgrade to my DX4S which is a few years old and a bit worse for wear. I saw a youtube video comparing it to the DX4S and decided to buy the Flysky Noble instead. The Rugged is pretty large and I want something more compact.

I just realized I have been calling the new FlySky model a "Nomadio" rather than "Noble", which is incorrect - then I looked up Nomadio, trying to figure out how it got stuck in my head....

...and here's the old Nomadio radios:

The React

The Sensor

They went out of production...

Pretty innovative stuff at the time!

I had to look Nomadio up. Found some video from 2011, also peole saying their backup was garbage. $400 for a Tx and 100 for a receiver in 2007 lol. Apparently they were bad quality and went into producing military stuff. Hope they did better there.

I had a Nomadio React way back in the day. It was one of the few 4 channel pistol radios on the market back then and the only one that could do programmable multi point auxiliary channels. Nomadio did release beta firmware that made their radios compatible with Spektrum receivers (when Spektrum was the only other 2.4ghz radio on the market) but that didn’t help the fact they sourced the cheapest radio housing on the market to cram their cutting edge, military grade radio technology into. Things are so much better now.

I've been running my dx5 rugged for a few weeks now, and I've got to say I'm very pleased with it. Its got a wide array of adjustability, and neat little features, such as the tool compartment. It feels very beefy in your hand, which I really like. It provides the RX voltage and the TX voltage, so if your bec ever has issues, you will know quickly. It also has multiple lanyard mounting points, which I really like also. The rubber edging is a really nice touch. If you need to set your radio down, and it falls over, no more chipped edges, or worst yet, you drop it. The scroll pad takes some getting used to, to scroll through the menu, but after a few minutes its no big deal. Overall I feel that at 199$ this radio is a lot of bang for the buck!

Anybody have this tx and dx4r to compare both.

Rugged has the same quality feeling than dx4r?

I just picked up the rugged yesterday, compared to my dx3r from quite a few years ago, this thing looks and feels like it was made by 3 year olds instead of the usual 10yr olds.

The "quality" is comparable to any rtr radio I've ever seen in my opinion.

I just got the Rugged, thought it was a lot better than my ancient 3R, that thing was a toy with its silver/gray plastic. This thing is built stronger.

This is why I love humanity, two opinions on completely different spectrums on the very same products.

Now that I've dropped the damn thing twice, I feel better about it atleast hehe.
