Spektrum DX5 Rugged

Big Squid had this page up earlier, but took it down. So either they leaked this radio early or they published an April Fool's joke a few months early. :lmao:

I like the concept - a more durable and water resistant radio for the trails. It makes perfect sense.

Here's what I was able to snag:

Looks interesting. Really surprising there aren't more transmitters like this in my opinion...

I expected to see a 3' long antenna sticking out, with that styling (OG Traxxas tq anyone?) but overall I like it... shall we guess, $250ish?

edit: I came across an image that showed 139 Euros, so more like $159 US.

Shape definitely reminds me of the old 27mhz Traxxas radios

If that's accurate, this might get me to move on from my DX4S radios...

I'm confused, that strut is secured by a screw at both ends

About time someone came out with a crawler specific radio. Good Lord, with the scale segment being so hot, you would think this would have been a no-brainer.

It's a great start, how about a built-in LED on the front and a molded GoPro mount option? The Rugged Deluxe? :)

Looks pretty nice. How much do receivers for Spektrum usually run?

That's the big downfall of Spektrum IMO, I think the cheapest start at $40

*edit* My bad, looks like the cheapest is $30 (2-ch), $45 for 3-ch and up from there...

Spektrum is a top tier brand like Futaba and Sanwa. What do expect to pay for a receiver? My Futaba 3PM-X receivers were something like $80 each!

Holy crap! Might be time to bust out the velcro for those receivers.

Futaba FAAST receivers are expensive.

Ouch.... yeah sometimes I wonder if I really should just start using velcro on receivers and just move them from vehicle to vehicle as I need them. Probably save a bit of money when you have lots and lots of R/C's

When you have a cheap(er) radio like FkySky the receivers are only $15 or so a pop. Much more manageable. I save my good radios for other things. But honestly these days I'd be fine without the good ones.
