Default XT60’s or 90’s?

Stock deadbolt, getting rid of this Star plug, only running a 2S battery. Will the 60’s suffice or bump it to 90’s? What are you all running?

I use 60s in my bomber, crawlers don't draw enough amps to make 90s worth it

Is that amperage based upon what the ESC can draw? and how much of a pain is it to solder 60’s to a 10awg wire?

No, the esc amperage is unrelated, I'm taking about how many amps the motor draws. You may have to go XT90 simply based on the fact that 10awg wire won't fit in to the terminals of the xt60s. 12awg is the largest wire that will fit in xt60s.

The 60s will be fine, but yeah even 12G wire can be tough to fit into a 60. Nothing wrong with 90s, just a bit bigger plug to hang on to.

you will never need a 90 on a crawler, 60 will be plenty, and also a lot of batteries already come with a 60 connector!

Think the bigger issue will be trying to get a 10awg on a 60

That's a fair point,

It can be done on the 60s, I've done it, just need to use heat shrink.

I actually use 90s because I have go fast cars, so it's easier to keep them the same.

It would be worth considering how your going to expand. I think I pay maybe 50c more per 90

I don’t have that many to do right now. May just bite the bullet and do the 90’s now and call it a day.

You can't really go wrong with 90s

As has been said, 60s are plenty and more often supplied with batteries. But, if you are doing the switch now and don't have 30 vehicles to change over, you can make the choice of standard now without much hassle. 90s aint a bad choice.

Thanks. Just keep hearing that the 60’s are a pain to solder with 10awg. So since I’m not turning over a fleet may just start with the 90’s.

Its not a big deal to snip a little bit of wire cross section off so it solders easy.

Doesn’t that then defeat the purpose of using a heavier gauge wire in the first place? Certainly the battery manufacturer is using that AWG for a reason?

A lot of battery companies like to use much bigger wire than necessary on their packs. Maybe they think it makes their packs look more powerful, I don't really know. Most crawlers could run 16-18 gauge wire with no ill effects, 10 gauge wire doesn't add anything except more problems when it comes time to solder.

I have some Hobbyking 5000mah 20C 2S packs that came with 8 gauge wire for whatever reason, those were a colossal pain to solder to the XT60s but I made it happen. Just like JRH said, trim a little section of the wire out until it fits the solder cup of the connector.

Not really. While it becomes a choke point, it's also a very short choke point. And also one that isn't actually a choke point in a crawler since 10ga is oversized anyway.

Alright, good deal. Maybe I’ll pick up a few of each size and see what works best. Appreciate it fellas!

Would you say that using the "undersized" connector, or an adapter from 90-60 would be worse?
